The problem is there are so many variables - The main one is download or stream, everyone knows download is a million times better quality, but streaming is good for convenience but pretty shit image quality whatever they try to tell you 🙂
The player makes a massive difference as some have optional colour profiles and some are set, some users will use a different colour profile for personal reasons in DeoVR that doesn't align with the recommended profile and some users don't have a clue how to use Heresphere due to the complicated interface.
Users have different headsets, obviously the most popular one is Q3 or maybe Q2 but they will all have different colour profiles bulit into the OS, but again it's obvious to me hey all give a different experience.
We could all argue which is best until we're blue in the face, but unless you give info regarding headset choice or player preference then it's impossible for the developers to find a happy medium cause they are working in the dark.
I personally think all that is needed for SLR / VRSpy passthrough to improve is to implement seperate encoding settings for passthrough with a non-variable bitrate set at 20,000-30,000 and to tone down the overall saturation as although the red is predominent, if it was toned down it will look good as colours will still pop.
I've probably missed something, but who care's ?
Another problem is enshitifcation of products - SLR have already said that to incorporate the new cameras with focus issues they couldn't care less as they want to future proof regardless, so the downgrade is acceptable in their eyes.
I'm actually thinking they have reached their peak regarding overall quality as i'm just watching scenes over and over from a year or so ago.
Just my opinon...
