DEOVR hard freeze

No you’re not the only one. I’ve see. At least one or two other posts here and there. Shutting down kind of helps if it doesn’t freeze the whole headset then I’d have to hard rest via power button. Not sure what the issue is or solution.

The headset can't decode the video, which may freeze the entire headset.

Funseeker702 The video was originally shot in 90 FPS, so there isn't an option to change to 60 FPS.

AlexSLR no not to all. As someone mentions upon start up after shutting down I may get 10mins to browse and watch before it freezes the headset. Most of the time it’s accompanied by the subtitle warning prompt. It’s almost like the server slowed down. It just thinks and turns. Then when I exit out it freezes the headset up.

AlexSLR Wait, so there isn't a solution? Quest 3 users are just S.O.L. for any 90fps videos? That's like a majority of your base, right?

AshSLR No, nothing works in that case. Even closing the app completely and trying again a few days later does nothing. Once the vid is released it works however, it's just the preview for some reason.

I don´t know how to recognize a 90 fps video, as the DeoVR app always says H265 60 FPS, even in the video I posted.

It´s still lagging on max resolution, but reducing the resolution makes it work.

Strange thing is it happened on all videos, even older ones, and now it works fine again.
Maybe it was an issue with the Quest 3 all along.

pi314159 Quest 3 can't decode 90 FPS scences in 8K, lowering resolution may help. Unfortunately, these are limitations of the device itself

This is also happening to me I am on quest 3, using DEO15.07.3809 I have fast 1gb ethernet, don’t normally have trouble streaming ever. But lately in both SLR and in DEOdrive it has been freezing and stuttering. It is with all sorts of files both old and new, also files that have worked fine for ages up until now are all of a sudden freezing

It happens in DEOdrive a lot too, half the time I try and watch something on DEOdrive it is freezing. In DEOdrive it seems maybe to be also triggered by jumping around the timeline of the video a lot (which you need to do as we don’t have the ability for timestamps) if I jump around loads freezing often starts, but it is not exclusive to that as a trigger it randomly freezes all the time too.

Also with SLR and DEOdrive if one starts freezing the other will also be freezing so if drive is freezing and I try to jump into SLR that will be freezing too and vice versa

I have found that when I have the downloaded files streaming locally works fine, for example

These where freezing in SLR but I have downloaded those files so I tried streamed them locally in both the DEO player and in heresphere and they worked fine. So it is not my internet or the file because both work fine outside the SLR environment

Also something similar to this happened around 12-18 months ago where it would just freeze all the time, but it seemed to work itself out but now it seems the issue is back again

Sometimes dropping down resolution helps but not always sometimes it still freezes and stutters in lower resolutions

Sometimes switching it off and then on again helps but not always.

The issue is not there all the time sometimes I log on and it is fine, but when it starts you are basically not going to be able to stream at all at that time, you have to essentially go away and come back later

Tiverton Yeah its a real pain. Ive had about 6 years with zero issues then for the last 2.5 months ive constantly had exactly what you describe above. Its just a gamble now when you put the headset on whether you will actually be able to watch anything or not and if it does work doesn't mean it will work next time.

The problem is it doesn't seem to be widespread, if everyone was complaining it would be a priority fix but as there is only a few of us ts effecting I fear this won't get fixed

Tiverton Could you please clear app data and let us know if the issue occurs after that? Navigate to Settings > General > Storage. Locate the app or browser in the list and select Clear App Data

AshSLR ive also tried that, again its hit and miss after you do that if it works or not, first time I did it everything worked fine so I finally thought id identified the issue, next time I put the headset on it was back to stuttering and freezing again

I've had similar issues with videos freezing or stuttering with quest 3. normally a reboot fixes the issue. however, i noticed it seems to be more problematic recently. i was looking at the app ram usage yesterday and it looked like deovr app is using quite a bit, probably more so then previous. when opening the app, it used about 3.5gb of ram and would use over 4gb of ram when a 8k video was played. for some odd reason with quest 3, available ram for non-system apps starts a little over 4gb after a restart, but for some reason, tends to decrease after several days the device is active without rebooting. i've seen the available ram drop around 3gb after a week of usage without reboot. stuttering/freezing seems to happen when available system ram is lower then ram usage for deovr app.

doublevr I have Quest 3 and have done since release date, its not the headset as ive had quest 1 and 2 alongside a lifetime sub for about 7 years, everything was fine until about 2 or 3 months ago then then the issues started, I believe the issue is DeoVR related, im not the only person reporting the exact same issues

Maybe the guy above could be onto something regarding the RAM issue with the app?

I can confirm that the issue persists even in Heresphere with 90 fps videos, streamed locally. It is certainly related to hardware limitations.

However I am now trying to get the Windows version of DeoVR running, but it keeps crashing.
