  • AV1 leaks + Originals Re-Mastering Thread

doublevr Suggest some Originals to re-master with AV1 renders, better color grading and stitching, improved keying for PT scenes + SLR secret sauce. We’ll also address the blue edge lens artifact, possibly blurring it out or converting it to a neutral color.

      doublevr Someone has intentionally boosted the saturation on that AV1 image to make to look better than the HEVC one 🫤

          As the vids dont work I went by the photo's, zoomed in and compared them but I don't see more details in one or the other, actually just seems more saturation like Hairsational says

            Particularly Mean Stepsis, since it is a dark scene, I would like to see how much difference AV1 will make.

              Manny_S So how do you explain the difference then? The color saturation contrast is clearly very different between the HEVC image and the AV1 image. Codecs don't change the image like that.

                I consider myself pretty sharp eyed and did not see difference in quality. Both were good. Colors were different but I can achieve this by sliders in DeoVR or change the colour profile (it is usually the last one in menu, was it Adobe RGB or something like that)

                Can you explain what is better stitching and improved keying for PT scenes in practice? I had to ask ChatGPT to figure these out. I have never considered video transitions to be problem. Same goes for background removal. Your passthrough AI model is the limiting factor, not the AV1 improved keying.

                    Tried the HVEC version in the Sandbox but my Quest 3 says it's also AV1 codec...?

                      bazzio You can stream both examples in the Sandbox in both, HEVC and AV1, so no one knows what they are actually watching, which makes the whole comparison exercise pointless. Probably another case of:

                        doublevr im a little confused, which of those two links have actual AVI downloads? When I click on both links they both only show h.265 links? Shouldn't there be a downloads button that is clearly labeled as AV1? Maybe im just missing something here

                          This shouldnt be that complicated, where exactly are download links for AV1 files for local playback? All the links at the top take me to two almost identical pages with different download links and neither of them specify AV1 for a download, all show h.265 what am i missing here?

                            ok sounds good, i thought i was just crazy because even the sample clicks in the post above let you download them and one supposedly says its AV1 but its virtually the same size as the other clip, again by clips i dont mind the links to the videos but the clips they have embeded.

                                Manny_S I did mention i downloaded that one and see that its AVI in the file but the size is virtually the same as the h.265????? I thought part of this process was to have the same or better quality at a small file size?

                                  How are we to know which vids have been remastered? Are you reposting them as new? Is there an AV1 tag?
