Thogapotomus It's clearly stated when you sign up. No, you don't physically sign anything when buying a subscription, but signing up with those terms does carry legal weight. That said, of course taking legal action over a lifetime subscription isn't practical and that is just being exploited here. Still, there are ways to resolve issues like this without taking them to court.
As others have mentioned, hosting isn't the real issue, AV1 support is coming regardless, and there are likely plenty of underused lower res formats already. SLR has also already greatly reduced the number of downloads included, so there is no abuse factor anymore either. Besides if their claim is true, that barely anyone downloads anymore, then this shouldn't even be a concern.
The truth is, none of that is what is actually at play. This is about SLR wanting to turn the platform into a walled garden and charging absurd prices for downloads that users have technically already paid for through their subscription.
Yeah, it may very well be true the costs for hosting all the formats isn't an excessive burden and that they still need to be stored regardless of download availability.
VRXVR 4- We're not talking about the "legality" of the action/ decision, but more about the "deceiving" factor of it for those whom subscribed because of the HBR files.
Agreed, it does suck. But @fenderwq just mentioned SLR hoping no one would sue them, which is a bit of a stretch and why I responded to it.
VRXVR 5- What new "features" you talk about beside the "stream only" fate of this website? Please enlighten us. Most of the things they mentioned are either immature low quality tech/ video format or stuff that most of us don't care about if you read many threads on this forum.
The ones I mentioned. AI passthrough and guassian splatting. Plus I think the drive feature is actually really cool even if I doubt I'll pay for it. Have you seen what VR porn looked like 8 years ago? It was literally immature low quality tech. But things get better. They just have to start somewhere.

I care, in general, about removal of features, but you're right that it doesn't affect me. Nor does it affect most users, apparently. They aren't going to reverse the decision unless it hurts the company somehow though, and it doesn't seem likely to be the case.

This seems accurate. But well, when you have the nicest garden... SLR certainly wouldn't be the only company to do so. As of now though, no other site even has their own video player. The ability to just load up DeoVR and easily consume the content is second to none at this point. The ability to click a video and to easily be able to scan the entire timeline to see the content preview is a godsend and has saved me an untold number of hours. I'd probably use SLR just for that alone.

You guys are losing perspective.
SLR is constantly evolving in tech and logic. We are iteratively changing the packages and economy. Not the first time. You keep your 8K downloads that are also used for streaming. "Original" aka download version is being moved to PPV. You get it AV1 and AI script where available along with unlimited downloads. That's the sprit of change. It perfectly coincides with AV1 mastering and transcoding which is a great upgrade to the platform. Along with all the other things down the list.
I'd wish there would be a way to keep things as they are, but we are changing in the name of progress. It's been said enough. Let's move on to other more productive discussions.

Oh wow. Last time I checked the Badoink channels they didn't have anything. Now I'll have to check them out. I really like the variety of studios SLR has but I might try a month or something at those others just to see what's up.

I was about to second that suggestion. Having premium members get a drip feed of that stuff can take the sting away from ppv. It also let's you try some things risk free, which is nice.

Little feedback about your last SLR video : Pink me!
You make great videos and then offer crappy video quality with a 21 mb/s bitrate like in 2018 where you feel like you've been drinking because it's so blurry. Okay, if you don't want to offer master videos anymore, at least have the honesty to offer videos in better quality (60 mb/s). It's 2025, guys. All your competitors offer videos above 30 mb/s minimum. This choice is incomprehensible.
I understand that you want to reduce your bandwidth costs, but you could start by removing some studios with mediocre quality.
Then why not increase subscription prices? I don't care about paying a little more if the quality is there (not the PPV scam). And then why make videos longer than an hour to watch only 15 minutes at the most ? :-)
I don't think the majority of your customers like looking at armpits ;-)

I compared the two versions:
AV1: 12 mb/s
H265: 21 mb/s
I don't really see the difference, although I have the feeling that H265 is very slightly better. AV1 must be too low by its bitrate to reach the same level.
I compare with another recent video "Naughty Dorm Party: Sneaky Induction" and the quality is better.
In the missionary view the pussies are not blurred like in Pink me!
I hope this is an encoding error with the recent production changes.

boudaba Yeah the H265 is 20.6 mbit/s. A quality that's really below industry standard at the moment. One can only HOPE that this is some kind of mistake. And that it's not their idea to only included sub par video quality in the monthly subscription because they want to push us towards the $7 ppv version.
harigeharry The AV1 version has the same very poor quality problem. I think it's a mistake, otherwise it's really sad, especially with such an actress.
Terrible move. Selling cheap lifetime subs with the full intention of replacing lost revenue by charging for high quality downloads and who knows what else. You absolutely could increase revenue from lifetime users by adding features instead of this awful bait and switch. So disappointed. I've been a huge champion of SLR on reddit and other forums and now I feel like an idiot.
