MV-HEVC is very similar but allows for the left/right or top/bottom stereo 3D views to be stored in separate layers rather than in 1 large container. So this means the decoder limits will be per eye and not for both eyes which is HUGE. We'll finally have 8k+ playback support 🥳

Any updates on this, or on SLR trying some 12K/16K stuff? I used an AVP for a week, and was blown away with some non porn 12K content. It was some Asian Opera/Dance content which Im not interested in but visually it was amazing, much closer to a "human eye"/in-person/irl look. What was especially noticeable is objects toward the midground were still crisp looking instead of fuzzy (like 8K is at midground and background), but overall it just felt more in-person, like you were there. 8K really doesn't come close to taking advantage of high resolution micro oled displays.

So, when is 12K coming to NSFW content at last? Lol

putting the cost aside, it's also about the convenience. pcvr will never be my cup of tea for many reasons. just the other day I commented why pcvr is pure struggle for little gain in my opinion.

as for 16k videos everyone would love to see them of course including me. but I'll rather wait for capable upcoming next gen standalone vr headsets than invest in pcvr :p

fenderwq absolutely right, yes. but still, pcvr is a mess! and that's my whole point.
what I strongly believe pcvr should be is like following:

only 2 hardware devices (pc and native pcvr headset support wired and wireless mode) we have that today in terms of wired native pcvr although it's still very limited in terms of native pcvr headsets. and of course they still need to work on the wireless part of things.

only 1 native vr capable os (windows or linux) should support ar/ mr/ vr out of the box without adding any 3rd party drivers/ softwares or "layers" as I called them in my previous post. I mean it should behave like standalone vr headset os (meta horizon os/ android xr)

in other words, you install an app or run a vr game and it should open directly in the vr headset without the need to install or open multiple launchers like steam and steamvr to achieve that.

and given that we are talking about microsoft and valve, it's a safe bet that such a thing will never happen. lol.

there's nothing I hate more than dealing with annoying pop-ups, menus/launchers, or seeing any other stuff when I want to execute an app or a game.

maybe because I'm old school, I used to insert a cartridge in my snes and it works directly, used to install a pc game from gog.com and it opens directly. no more shitty shit is needed like what we have today.

steam/ epic store/ current gen game consoles behavior is the main reason why I abandoned video gaming forever and there's no way I'll get back. as a reason I'm done with windows/ linux pc devices too.

the only 3 devices I have in my life and use dialy today are:
1- meta quest 3.
2- samsung smartphone.
3- orange airbox.

all of them are mobile/chargeable/wireless. no more worrying about:
1- ac power outages.
2- os/ software/ games crashes.
3- desktop pc regular cleaning. lol.

these 3 devices made me sell my desktop pc, big ass 4k tv, surround sound system and never invest in a new laptop after mine died because I just don't touch them anymore.

for me, these 3 devices what I call "cutting edge" nothing can beat their ease of use and peace of mind. can't be happier!

sorry for my long ass post and my poor english. lol. but I wanted you to understand why I'm thinking in a different way when it comes to pcvr or anything else really 🙂

filgan Yeah I have a quest 3 too (among others). It's a nice device and and all that but you sacrifice a lot for that convenience. It's kind of like a laptop versus a desktop thing. Lots of gamers don't want to game on a laptop and use a desktop even though they are bulky inconvenient and so forth.

Now, I think Valve Deckard will be very similar to Quest in that it has native steam os and you just click to launch a game but instead it will launch something on your pc and stream it to your headset. Speculation on my part but I think that is where PC vr is going.

fenderwq my gaming experience with VR headsets was awful unfortunately, because I'm prone to motion sickness. the only VR games I could play and complete are Moss and its sequel Moss Book II.

even trying seated games like Kayak VR or Assetto Corsa Competizione gives me nausea and I feel dizzy no matter what I try. believe me I tried everything and nothing worked for me 🙁

and don't let me start talking about my VRChat experience! lol. I almost threw up from motion sickness. damn! I wish I hadn't had this issue, since VR games are amazing! I wish I could play games like The Midnight Walk and Out Of Sight. I just can't! so I scrapped VR gaming from my life, unfortunately.

I only use VR for watching YT, DeoVR, SLR and that's it. when I'm bored, I watch video games gameplay/walkthrough videos both retro and modern on YT using the Quest browser in theater mode just to get some gaming enjoyment, and it works for me very well.

as for real gaming, no, not for me unfortunately, as I said before, I scrapped that option. so there's no point in investing in a gaming desktop PC again or even a laptop. not needed in my life and that's ok.

Valve Deckard looks very interesting and if it is done right, I believe it can help boost PCVR and VR gaming in general like no other headset especially if your speculation can be true. yes, there's nothing even close to PCVR visuals, and that's a fact. no one can argue with that. As for me, you got the point I think. It's just these 3 devices. they are all I need in my life for multiple of reasons as you see. cheers! 🙂

filgan haha, yeah gotta get your vr legs man, first few time I played Alyx I got motion sickness too. Pushed through it and now I never get it anymore. Some people deal with it better though.

Anyways, I was using gaming as a metaphor for quality in VR porn. You can just get way better screens and FOV if you go pc VR. AVP has very good screens too for a very premium price but the FOV is mediocre at best. With the upcoming 16k Blackmagic camera this will only make more of a difference. But yeah currently the best high res + high FOV headset is that clunky Pimax crystal super. Huge compromise on convenience but awesome visuals. There are others that are way more streamlined at a big cost in FOV but they are still tethered. We'll see what Valve will bring when they finally release their headset.

fenderwq more than a year and a half to build my VR legs? because this is the time I spent trying to do so...

tried everything from starting with simple inactive games to putting a fan blow to my face to moving my legs to simulate walking and ended up putting chunks of ginger in my mouth. even tried weirder shit like pushing myself no matter what as a final resort, nothing worked! 🙁

bro, the maximum I could do is 30 minutes; after that, I remove the headset, sit on the chair, bowing down with my hand on my head with an awful feeling of headache, sometimes laying down on the ground with slow breathing and dizziness like I'm poisoned or something.

just look at this post of mine. even a slight visual distortion in VR videos makes me feel awful! I'm a hopeless case! lol!

as for Apple, I proudly say I never owned one Apple product in my entire life and I'll continue to do so forever. never liked them. lol. but I do agree the AVP specs are great.

yeah, I hope for better headsets soon. I'm tired of Meta shit too.
what I hope for is an Android XR headset, lightweight with great specs and without any restriction when it comes to OS and apps hopefully. maybe the Samsung one, maybe others. I'll wait and see :p

Anyways, I really dislike all the apple software too, don't want to own any apple shit, but yeah, good specs. The android XR headset is super interesting. The big downside is that it has a halo strap which causes that bulk at the back of your head which absolute sucks while watching VR porn. You can't lean against anything either as the halo strap will push the front off your face.

On a sidenote, the Pimax dream air seems interesting to me from early first look videos (not released yet and yo never know with Pimax). AVP+ res, quest 3+ FOV, small form factor, no back at the head bulk and OLED. OLED is cool for colors but it also has better fill factor in the screen which makes lower res look better then it would on LCD/MiniLED. But yeah, it would suck to go back to a non optional tether and no passthrough. Ahh well, maybe Deckard will save the day, fingers crossed. I'll wait a bit longer for the next one.

wow, I thought it was a PCVR-only headset! now looking at it again, it says "Standalone and PC mode available." that's great actually. I hope they deliver and don't screw up this headset too. I'll keep an eye on this and as you said, we'll wait and see. hope we'll not wait for too long though.
