Quest1 and older headsets not operational returning "Unsupported Format"
- Edited
Has anyone tested if using DeoVR on Oculus Link still works with SLR on Quest 1? Its unfortunate that we are at the mercy of several third parties to watch our videos we purchased on hardware that we own. DeoVr and Meta arbitrarily limiting our ability to watch videos sucks!
SLR if you can find an app on sidequest that works with your website like deovr that would be great. DeoVR has a litany of poor reviews because they frequently "update" the app and make it actively worse.
I am not upgrading my Quest 1 until maybe the Quest 4 and will not be forced to do so by these underhanded tactics.
Also weird that I can watch the previews with no problem, but the purchased videos all say "error playing video file unsupported format"
What a very bad news ... I am very disappointed on your part because I have the feeling that no effort and it makes it simply pushes to upgrade VR headset. Horsely my annual subscription ends in October, I will not renew it after 2 years of good and loyal service.
I think you will lose many customers
Maybe you can make an effort on the price of the subscription to amortize the purchase of a new headset.
Like others have said, I'm disappointed. It's not like it's a video game, it's just video which was streaming fine before. Wouldn't really expect needing to upgrade a VR headset just for video playback.
I'll give the WebXR playback option a go. There's still a little bit of life in the Quest 1 before I consider shelling out for a new headset.
Such a shame as it was working just fine and previews work, so this is a decision rather than a technical limit.
Unfortunately I just renewed my sub, but wont be next time.
You could at least offer a Search ability on the hub for us
brads75 There are measures to be taken such as making a sidequest version of the app! There are not that many Quest 1 users but there are quite a few Quest 2 users. When the Quest 2 inevitably gets defunct like the Q1, SLR will have a choice. They can prepare in advance to ensure users can always access their bought and paid for videos using hardware they purchased through side apps, or they can potentially lose a large portion of their userbase due to a lack of respect to their paying customers

brads75 Its not a Meta issue, because if you log out of DeoVR in the app, you convenientlycan still watch the 2 minute preview of the files, hence why I say this is a decision by DeoVR not a technical issue, because how comes the previews work? Its the same exact same file format, same same Q1 headset, yet they wont let us play the full version fo the same file.

WORKAROUND:
So I tested a work around as the SLR hub quality isnt the same standard as DeoVR. Issues: The SLR hub doesnt have search, the streaming isnt as good and there are no sections to jump to on a video, plus other features lacking
So, if you are forunate to have a latop or PC, I've tested you can download DeoVR in Steam (it's free) and use Quest 1 Air link to connect to the PC and then DeoVR. You will also need to install the Meta Quest PC application from Meta
This gives us back the full quality and functionality of DeoVR and feels no different to the Quest 1 app.
I have not tested the scripts for lovensense etc as I dont have one
Mikexxx169 theoretically you should be able to enjoy 8K streams as Quest 1 decoder was only limited to 4K. Please let me know

Mikexxx169 Quest 1 is going to work just fine if you manage to get the most recent DeoVR version installed on it

doublevr No thats not correct, the latest version doesnt work even if you sideload it or from the store. I even uninstalled DeoVR and reinstalled.
Again the if you log out of SLR within the app, the previews work, but when you log in and try to play the full video, it says ""error playing video file unsupported format"
This says to me (and I am technical) that this is not a technical issue that the quest 1 is incapable of connectiong to a video and playing it in DeoVR, as if that was the case, the previews would not work.
Please get a hold of a Q1 headset and try for yourself and ytou will see.

We totally want something like this

Hello everyone. I have oculus go and effectively it won't let me open slr in deovr and if I see the previews. But it doesn't even let me if I do it by opening Google that before I could see it. No possible solution?
