What it says in the title. I'm not ready to spend several hundred dollars on a VR headset. Is there any way whatsoever to watch SLR videos in virtual reality without buying a headset, or using a headset that uses a phone
Watch SLR VR vids without upgrading?
Hi leftofdial well, a VR headset brings the immersion, which makes it ‘virtual reality.’ You can still watch the content on your phone or desktop and see the difference in comparison with ordinary ‘flat’ videos. There were some headsets that required a phone to be used as your glasses in the past, but they were discontinued due to outdated technology
PabloSLR I meant, can I watch them at all as VR using a headset that uses a phone as its screen
It seems other VR sites still let you use phone-enabled VR headsets. Is there absolutely no way to do this with SLR videos?
Ah, I see your point. We covered this topic a few times but the long story short is that cardboard/mobile VR view devices are mostly discontinued by their developers/creators. That's why we also decided to stop supporting it a while ago. The quality is also sub par compared to what VR headsets can do and it's an overall poorer experience
leftofdial if you have an older samsung phone (S8, S9 or S10) you may be able to find an old GearVR unit that attaches and sort of works ok for VR. The GearVR on an S10+ was quite good in it's day and could handle 5K and some 6K VR videos. Samsung and Oculus (now owned by Meta) no longer support these units.
As noted above, the cardboard things were rubbish and would give you a very poor impression of VR.
Quest 2 was a big improvement (and can be found second hand) and of course, Quest 3 is best value for money new, at present.
I prefer the player on the SLR website but when I download they open up in side by side in VLC, is there an offline player that has the same functionality of the player on the site (2d)?
Potplayer can show VR videos in 2d - if its 180deg or something you can pan around.
