Pretty ironic thread for a porn forum..

I sadly know quite a few people who have taken their life, none of it had anything to do with the industry. Life can be a bitch in many ways, I don't always agree with doublevr but what he said here is all that needs to be said. You shouldn't worry yourself about people you don't know personally, nearly every news segment would make you depressed if you did.

The performing arts in general have a very high death rate, it's not unique to porn. Actors and musicians are also affected. As people have said, it's not a stable life, there's a lack of job security and a lot of drug use. Performers also tend to be people who have had rough childhoods and need validation more than the average person. Since most don't have regular employers, perhaps the solution lies with talent agencies taking on the job of looking after their clients better.

I also think the term sex worker is unhelpful. A porn actor does a completely different job from a stripper or a prostitute.

In French there is a proverb which says: "hell is paved with good intentions"; I'm simply saying that we must not forget to ask the main stakeholders, here the women in porn, what they say about it; not to believe everything they say, because the opinions of each person can - we are human beings - can be different from each other; but it's a good start; otherwise we risk being in a form of paternalism; it's my opinion.

All death is sad, no one called anyone disposable…how dare you insinuate that. I just pointed out an objective reality. What are YOU doing to prevent these kinds of outcomes that you get to sit on this high horse of yours and lecture us? Are you a social worker? A drug counselor? Psychologist? Because from where I’m sitting you’re just ranting to maybe 10 or 20 people on the internet about what bad people we are while you’re doing….what? Unless you’re directly involved in these peoples lives where you could make a difference, there’s nothing any of us individually could do to prevent something unfortunate like this from happening.

@TG31415 You don't have to look at unnatural deaths to make your case. There's a parade of alive but completely broken down ex-pornstars. It's not a kind industry and draws its "talent" (both sexes) from the poor who are already at a disadvantage.
