  • CPU vs. GPU processing: Join 8K Video Quality Tests!

Hey.

I'm exploring the potential of GPU servers for processing VR videos. My recent tests have produced promising results, showing a significant reduction in processing time with the same high quality.

I have two versions of the same 8K h265 video, one processed with a CPU and the other with a GPU. The videos have been published under SLR Labs for public tests.

After viewing, please share your feedback on which video had better visual quality, clarity, and provided a more immersive VR experience. I'm especially interested in understanding which rendering method you find superior and why.

Looking forward to your detailed feedback!

bruce Had a quick look (streaming). Switching back and forth between videos, I didn't spot any differences. Both streaming files are 594 MB, so no difference in that area too. Is there anything in particular we should pay attention to?

I don't know the first thing about rendering or GPU servers, but wondering whether it makes a difference whether the computing is done by a CPU or GPU as long as the rendering method is the same?

Just pay attention to quality. Streaming files have different file size even though website shows 594mb.

not seen any clear differences; on the other hand the second video, with my reverb it lags even more (currently with the deo version it lags)

Tried both files on the DeoVr streaming app with the Quest 2 and also downloaded both files en viewed them in HS.
After switching a lot back and forward between the 2 files on both players, I can't spot any difference in quality, despite the lower bitrate and filesize of the first video. But could also be the performance limitations of the Quest 2?
