  • What can be learned from LA Production

I don't want to talk about SLR letting the director go. We have 3 scenes that all other directors can learn from. I want to point out the things I see that make the first 2 scenes I have seen, 2 of the best porn videos on SLR in a long time.

There are so many little differences that make a great video. Things like taking the little extra time to bring a bubble maker. It makes for a huge bonus. All we get is the same thing over and over so anything new is amazing.

Starting the scene in the bathtub WITH WATER.

Jesse Pony saying she loves me is a thing that hardly ever happens. It really ups the immersion.

The different order of the positions. Something anybody could do but they don't.

Missionary - The way close up missionary is shot. IMO this is the best I have seen it. When Nash shoots it, if you look down at your dick, it looks way too far away. I thought maybe it was the camera but it's not. It's the angle of the camera and the fact he has the girl propped up on 3 pillows. LA Production shoots it LIKE REAL LIFE. The angle looks correct. My arms are in the right place. I'm still looking right at the girls face. It perfect.

The start of the scenes are well done. We don't just jump into some weird story that only gets explained with 2 sentences. The girl tells you why this is happening and it makes sense. There are cuts so you can tell the director is helping her with staying on course. I would rather have this then just letting the whole story fall apart.

These are the kind of scenes we have been talking about when we try to explain how SLR scenes could be better( at least for me). I could go on and on but I need to go to bed cause i have to work early tomorrow. Hopefully more people can add to this and the directors can read it. @alexnash

        I especially agree with your statement about the Close-up Missionary, i very much dislike the camera angle and body positioning that Nash uses. So far both of the LAProduction scenes have had a much better view on the close missionary where you can look right in the girls face OR you can glance down and clearly see the penetration. In Nash scenes the camera is so close to the girls face that i kinda get double vision sometimes and if i waste my time looking down i just see the shadow of a penis that looks to be about 5 feet away from me.

        I really don't understand why Nash doesn't at least tell the girls to pull their knees back towards their body to open up the view of the action.

        Is there anyone that actually prefers the Nash close-missionary angle? If so, what do you like about it?

            HughMungus The issues with Nash missionary have been raised a bunch of times but have never been acknowledged. I think he could learn a lot from checking out the camera placement for BaDoink's standing missionary and CzechVR's laying missionary.

              I never really understood how close-up missionary is supposed to be watched or how people actually watch it. Maybe directors don't know either. I understand a lot of guys watch lying on their backs or sitting and don't like to change positions while watching, especially when there is some stroking machinery set-up involved. But from your post I get that you are actually going into close-up missionary while watching. Is this what everyone caring about this position is doing?

                  I'll be totally honest, I thought the first 2 LA Production scenes were superb! Whatever you think of Jimmy as a person, there's no denying that he is one of the very best VR directors, with great ideas and a vision that elevate a scene above a lot of the average scenes being released lately. WVR have never been the same since he was fired, and watching these 2 scenes reminded why they used to be so great. Other than maybe Nash (but even his scenes are not up to his standard from a few years back) VR porn is seriously lacking in innovitive directors that really understand VR porn at the moment. With a lot of scenes now, I find myself skipping around a lot, trying to find a stand out moment that I like, or something different, as fundamentally they all the same at the end of the day - same positions, same locations etc...but with these 2 scenes (and loads of the WVR back catalog) I find I want to watch the whole scene through as there's so much to enjoy. Jimmy just has a natural talent for VR, that imo, can't be copied.

                  I think the "Jimmy is a VR genius" bit is overdone.

                  Firstly, the two videos available are Melody Marks and Jessie Pony - two of the best VR actresses around. Each have a sense of the medium and acting skills that far surpass many of the "first time in VR" models that SLR seems to favor. A lot of the polish of the scenes is because of them, not anything that the director did.

                  Secondly, these scenes are more notable for what they don't include than what they do - there isn't 15 minutes of armpit licking and foot-waving nonsense that Nash forces into every video, so they come across as more natural than vids where the model seems to be trying to mechanically progress through every kink imaginable.

                  Finally, some credit is due for using the correct angles that viewers have been asking for from Nash FOREVER. His SLR videos have become an exercise in annoyingly close and low seated positions, followed by giraffe-neck missionaries and laying positions that have your head coming out of your sternum.

                  What I mean by saying the Jimmy isn't a VR genius is that most, if not all, other directors from big studios also do these things correctly. It is only Nash that seems to refuse to learn from feedback and continues to use the worst angles while forcing in BS to try to appeal to every person in every video. Jimmy's videos are fairly banal, really, but they seem like such a breath of fresh air because we are so used to Nash's tortured efforts that a vid that is simply technically correct and not full of over-the-top nonsense and angle/position mistakes that other studios corrected in 2018 seems amazing.

                  VRSpy is a perfect example of these issues - the stories are interesting, the models are great, but the camera positions are awful, the armpit and foot crap is annoying, and too many of the vids are out of focus or have shitty color issues (often yellow). I want to like them, but they are always disappointing.

                  Nash used to be the best, but he needs to get out of his own way. The fact that Jimmy is making him look bad is the strongest evidence to date that he needs to examine his own hubris.

                        SchnuppiLilac I'm not going into missionary position. I lay down or sit up. I sit up for missionary. I'm probably leaning forward when watching close up mish. I guess my brain feels like i'm in the position. With Nash's scenes I can't look down because the whole thing falls apart. My legs look like there 10 feet long.

                        Pro tip: I used to watch VR in a recliner that would very easily and quickly go from sitting to completely laying flat. You could watch all the standing positions or close up mish by sitting at the end of the chair, It pretty close to being in the position. Then just sit in the seat for seated. And laying all the way back for that.

                          I guess we are all different. I really like all of Nash's positions except for close mish. The biggest problem I had with LA Production's video was I thought the camera was to far away a lot of the time. Not bad but just a little to far. Maybe it is because we are different heights IRL. Or maybe it is how are brain sees the image in the headset. If I take the headset off, it never really lines up with what I think looks correct in the headset.

                              You could tell Jimmy had a room full of props that he could look around and grab stuff for a shoot.
                              SLR should have the money at this point to pay a guy to buy and bring different things that would really help the scenes. Then you have them for the next time. I have seen that bubble maker in more than one scene in the past.

                              Again there is more to a scene than just saying someone is your stepmom. If you want it to stand out in a sea of average.
                              Nash starts every scene now with you sitting on a couch. If you do this every time then it becomes boring.

                                What makes people get a subscription or what makes people keep their subscription?
                                Having the best scenes money can buy.
                                Most of the nonSLR scenes people can get somewhere else probably for cheaper and the other stuff is very poor quality.
                                So to me, SLR having great scenes is a huge part of what I care about. It's what made me join in the first place.
                                I really think SLR should spend the time and money on making better scenes. Give Nash a bigger budget, give him more time to really move the camera around. I mean we only get one regular scene a week now anyways.

                                I don't care that SLR is hiring new directors. It will take them almost a year to get ok at the angles and distances. At that point we are just then back to all the other big studios. If new people sign up and see a new directors crappy video then what will they think of SLR.

                                I think SLR should at the moment put all their chips in on Nash making bigger Nasherpieces. There really isn't any other choice at the moment.
