With the Apple vision Pro released, will the VR porn indstry intend to capture videos higher than 8k to make use of the ultra high resolution of the vision pro? Have current cameras reached the highest limit they can capture, or is it that VR studios have determined that 8k is the optimal resolution in terms of cost, storage, performance, streaming etc...

rabbit_bird AVP can't decode any more than 8K and neither can any other headset. Cameras are still limited and VR studios would be using higher than 8K if they had suitable options.

Hairsational I have seen 12k YouTube flat videos that can run at the native 12k resolution without problem on my quest 3. So if cameras exist to capture 12k, is it just a matter of finding a way in software to decode it for vr?

rabbit_bird VRB has a couple of VR videos in 10K and 12K versions. After I got the Q3, I tried a 10K video but it didn't work in all the players I tested. But it played just fine with VLC on a M2 Pro Mac.

rabbit_bird The video was likely 30fps. 60fps is the minimum framerate for a good experience in VR and Quest 3/AVP cannot play videos above 8K 60fps without stuttering because the hardware physically doesn't support it.

There is one 12K VR camera available but from what I heard it's expensive and not suitable, so studios stick with their 8K and lower cameras.
