harigeharry You're talking about 'alignment issues'. But isn't that a thing in a VR scene too? I find regular VR way less immersive if the male actor is quite differently aligned. So IMHO this is an issue for both VR as PT, although of course for PT it's even a bigger thing, agreed there. Studio's just should get this right when shooting a scene.
With VR, you are tricking my peception by replacing the whole visual field with a 3D alternative. With AR (PT), you are placing a poorly-scaled, oversaturated, semi-opaque model with clipping issues in my semi-poorly rendered passthrough representation of my room, and asking the rest of my senses to believe it. It's a MUCH bigger ask, and the tech just isn't up to it yet - it's just a gimmick right now.
I am. Neurobiological basis of perception is my area of research. Here is a good article to explain why porn works:

In a nutshell, we are wired to pay much more attention to outside-generated stimuli than to self-generated stimuli. Watching/looking at any kind of porn activates the area of the visual system that registers touch, similar to your actually being touched. The visual system activation somewhat overrides the knowledge that you are actually touching yourself - at least enough to make it more pleasurable than masturbation without it. VR is powerful because with a 3D headset and spatial headphones, you are feeding high-quality sense data that mimics two senses (sight and sound) remarkably well - so much so that it overrides the knowledge that you are actually touching yourself (done right, we tend to call this immersion). And - if you add a device like the Handy which syncs that touch/stroke with the visual and auditory information, you are overriding 3 of the five senses (touch, visual, and auditory). Pulling back from that total immersion to an imperfectly rendered PT model who doesn't match the lighting, shadows, color pallete, or scale of the room, where other distracting activity may be also taking place (like your compter monitor, for example) and the overall lack of clarity in the PT representation of the room, and the possibility that you can see you hand/toy masturbating leads to the effect being severly diminished. Given that everyone's environment is different, and that people watch in many positions, it is exceedingly difficult to get a PT model to match everyone's possible surroundings/position. With VR, the male might not natch exactly youir position, but at least she matches the rest of the environment she is in - she doesn't position change and suddenly start floating in space with a disembodied cock as happens so often in PT videos.
