It appears that a new update has broken the aspect ratio for 3D SBS videos. Basically the issue is that it seems like the video is squished in for 3D SBS 180 videos and sometimes circular when playing through DLNA streaming and local files on the device itself on my Pico 4 headset.

I have most of these videos set to _SBS_180. If you look at the top and bottom and left and right of the video, it seems squished and it wasn't like this before. I've tried setting the video manually through the interface and also with the naming convention and something is clearly off with this.

Is anyone else having this issue with local files? I don't understand why the devs who make DeoVR can't just leave things alone sometimes, I get things advance but all the latest updates have made things so much more annoying, including the 6DOF forcing itself on and passthrough having to be toggled on and off for every video.

Hey infernohammer , I will send is over to the team to investigate. In the meantime, can you confirm that you are referring to the DeoVR version 13.14.1 as well if you send us any screenshots showing the issue you're experiencing?

If easier for screenshots, you can create a support request following this link so we can collect as many details as possible.

[deleted] Hi Mateo, thank you for your reply. And yes I am on 13.14.1.

      Here is some screenshot examples:

Taken from Pico 4 headset (notice the circular rounded edges)

Image taken from desktop of the same video, square type presentation:

      Second example, screenshot from headset:

      Screenshot from desktop:

This one isn't as extreme but it just seems off for some reason and weirdly cutting off the sides and top & bottom of the image in some way.

I tried uninstalling and re-installing DeoVR with no luck. Something tells me this is some kind of bug or I'm just going crazy.

Hey infernohammer , I really appreciate the provided context as well as the screenshots! I have sent this over as well to the team and will let you know once they get back to me!

@[deleted] Thank you for that! Yeah it's really weird overall, luckily you still are able to enjoy the video when looking straight forward but it does ruin the immersion a bit when the sides are cut off slightly.

Hey infernohammer , just to double-confirm, all of the videos you are trying to play are 180, or are some of them 360? Also, can you send us the names of those videos (or links if doable)?

[deleted] Hi Mateo, yes most of the videos I'm playing are 180. I'm not playing any 360 ones. I do have a couple 190FISHEYE passthrough ones but with those videos you don't really notice obviously because you're only seeing the model in front of you. I also tested this with streaming on SLR through DeoVR and it seems like the issue is present with streaming videos as well.

I don't have any links for the videos as they are local files in my collection.

            infernohammer my Pico 4 headset.

I was using my Pico 4 yesterday and didn't notice anything like this.

How can I see this? Is it noticeable on all videos?

Vrsumo2017 It's sometimes subtle but there. The key is to look at the edges (top, bottom, left and right) of the video and you can see that parts of the image are cut off or squished. It's kinda hard to describe. Unless there is some universal setting on the Pico 4 that is causing the issue? I know there's a setting to enhance the quality of video playback, I haven't messed with it to test but maybe that's causing it? Seems unlikely though.

And it's more noticeable on some, like some appear completely circular and others such as say NaughtyAmerica vids just have this weird squeezed in effect. It's only really an issue with the edges and borders of the image. It doesn't seem like the actual scale is being messed with as if you look forward it seems normal.

Something tells me that it has something to do with the 6DOF integration that was recently implemented. Even though it isn't turned on when playing non-AR content maybe the configuration that it uses is messing with everything within the app. Just a guess though.

A member by the name of spinningblade over at the DeoVR forum posted this which may be the cause, figured I'd pass the information along here:

"It sounds like the DeoVR player is displaying your flat 3D SBS files as VR180 videos, which are spherical. I've never used DeoVR to play local files, but when I upload flat 3D SBS files to the DeoVR platform, I also get that same spherical distortion on the tops and bottom of the video. (it makes sense because SBS and 180 are the same settings you would select if you are playing a VR180 video) DeoVR tech support has to manually change every single one of my videos as they have a button on their end to make it project as "Flat". Not sure if the local DeoVR player has such an option. I use SkyboxVR to play all my 3D SBS file without issue."

I think I see what your saying.

What i notice is when tilting the video, example say I'm in a laying cg rcg and tilt the video down to line up guys body with mine it looks like guys chest gets warped wider the more you keep tilting, never notice this before and comparing to q3 the q3 doesn't do this, it just tilts up and down like normal instead of a warp. But something is off I can notice.
