I mean, this has all been done or is being done and I assume everything that you are missing was less successful. It seems that we are currently in an age of consolidation, meaning that there is a most popular/successful formula and every scene that deviates from it will generate less views and less revenue. For orgy/harem scenes, you may need to pay and cater 5 times as many performers as usual but the view count will not go up.

And look at Mile High Club: Three top notch performers, sex in a limo, sex on a plane, free tour of Las Vegas. I would have expected an above average view count just due to people being curious about what's going on in this scene. But wrong, 95 K views while almost any given PT video for which you don't even have to rent a fancy location has 150 K.

Don't get me wrong, I would love to see more variety but I don't think any major studio will currently risk losing money by producing a significant share of less popular scenes for the sake of diversity.

    It’s not just about views though unless you’re a third party studio who possibly get paid per view (I don’t know how that works).

    For SLR’s own stuff, it should be about attracting new subscribers. Diversifying a little may result in some scenes with smaller viewing numbers but may actually get new subscribers who want to see that stuff in VR.

    For example, let’s say SLRO started doing 3 interracial scenes per month. Those scenes may get a bunch of negative comments, may get 1k likes instead of 5k likes but, of those 1k likes, maybe 200 are new subscribers who signed up for IR content whereas the 5k likes on the standard scene are just the same people who are here all the time and probably have lifetime/annual subscriptions already.

    Doing the odd different scene isn’t going to cause anyone to cancel as they’ll still be getting what they want 90% of the time. It may help grow the membership though if you add some niches that other people may be looking for. Just making the same scenes over and over to keep the existing members happy won’t grow the site and those existing members will eventually get bored with the same thing and leave anyway. People who watch a lot of porn generally get bored with the same porn after a while and move into new fetishes to keep things interesting.

      Hairsational that’s why I said 3 per month. Obviously though I’m just plucking figures out of my ass to make the point that views aren’t always everything. Lesser viewed scenes could be the ones that bring new people in and higher viewed ones just viewed by your existing members.

      You have to keep the existing members happy to a large degree too, I’m not suggesting they go crazy, but a little variety wouldn’t harm them in my opinion and may bring in some new people which is what subscription services are all about.

        Whether or not it's 200 people who knows, we don't know how many subscribers studios/platforms have in general.

          IMHO this topic ties in well with the discussion here on "why VR scenes are infrequent". VR is still very much a niche, so it's tough for anyone to focus on niche categories/fetishes/etc. within a field that is already super niche (VR).

          But compare the quantity and variety of scenes now vs 5 years ago (or even 3 years ago) and I think it's abundantly clear things are drastically improving in every way.

            I’m not suggesting they focus on niche content, just that they may benefit from mixing it in now and again. At one time SLRO were doing maybe 4 scenes per week, maybe one of them could be something different from the norm. It may get less views than the other 3 scenes but may just get some new people to sign up instead of just playing to your existing audience.

            SLR has studio partners that are already producing niche scenes like these. Why does it have to be SLR Originals?

            On the other hand, it would seem an obvious choice for SLRO to try and fill gaps not covered by their studio partners. To a certain extent, they already have with harem, passthrough, and specialty scenarios like Ghostbusters and the Mile High Club mentioned above.

            As for fetishes, is adding a few more of a given type of niche scene really going to drive subs when its already present? Are they supposed to compete for views with their partner studios who produce the same types of niche content specifically because of the niche?

            justsomedude101 There is more quantity of scenes coming but the quality seems to be mostly the same it's like 20-30 meh scenes before 1 good scene. And good dialog and storylines are still lacking. It seems like the free use storyline would be a good way to make scenes more enjoyable. Also stories like stepmom needing to teach her daughter how to be good with the guys and needs you to assist and she shows her daughter how to please you then she tries it. You could reuse a story like this but it would still need good dialog at start every time. Also having the girls smile and say thank you for a close up right after the facial would be great!
            Don't get me wrong I do like some of the scenes coming out but I do think some more stories at that start would be better.
            Also I still think more time of showing off the girls bodies before the sexual action is better. Like in Angie Faith's scene there is a little bit of time showing off her wet body I feel like more of that would be great maybe even a little longer though. And fully nude more so we can kinda get like a mini StasyQVR / StripzVR style scene before the BG scene.

            Not trying to make anyone feel bad I just think there is always room for improvement and hopefully these tips can help.

              Like others have said, VR is a niche, and the money/time commitment involved in producing it has made the bigger studios very risk-averse. Anyone that spends enough time on this forum has it constantly beaten into their heads that every new actress/director/concept has to perform in the metrics immediately or get abandoned. It makes for more generic content across the board.

              I mean, look at every Original now - John Strong, young newcomer, generic set-up, armpit fetish, creampie, end. Over and over and over. That's what Alex Nash wants to make, it's what his fanbase wants, so that's what gets made. It's not exclusively an SLR problem. You could tell me that Badoink was making their scenes with an AI at this point and I'd be inclined to believe you.

              People can point to stuff like the Ghostbusters or Mile High scenes not doing well, but that's ignoring the problems those scenes actually had. The Ghostbusters scene was presented as some Halloween cosplay thing but it was just a standard gangbang. There was no set-up, story, or characters, and a bunch of people complained about having dicks in their face the whole time. The Mile High scene was unwatchable for the first segment in the car because the camera was all screwed up. What then followed was a standard 3-on-1 with a bunch of girls that had done a million VR scenes before. People like innovative stuff when it's actually done well and is actually doing something novel.

              Flat porn is going through a sort of renaissance now where weird shit is getting made all of the time. VR porn has seemingly gone backwards. The 4K era has a lot of outside-the-box stuff that has been mostly abandoned since. The quantity of VR porn is higher than ever. The variety, not so much. Even the smaller creators are mostly just trying to chase what the bigger studios are doing, or they're just a front for some rich old guys to fuck pornstars and they don't actually care about the content.

              So your thesis is that you might get a few hundred new subs, and who cares if it pisses off the people who invested in the site at an annual or lifetime rate since they can't quit or you won't get more money out of them anyway?

                  Wendigo that’s not my thesis at all. I stressed that you have to keep your existing subscribers happy. I’m suggesting a very small minority of scenes could explore different things and that way you may get some new interest. The existing subscribers would still get what they want the vast majority of the time however and therefore wouldn’t be cancelling memberships.
