Can't play a downloaded video

Hi !

I downloaded the 5k h.265 video, and it does not work, I only get a black screen and nothing.
I tried and VLC can open it but not SLR :/

Philip Like runamok mentioned, please tell us what device or headset you are using, and specs if it's PC based.
If you're using a PC based headset, it's a good idea to check your installed codecs:

Don't mean to hijack this thread, but I am having the same issues... every video I download, just will not play. All I see is a black screen. I can hear audio, but nothing on the screen. I can stream the videos and see them fine, but cant download and play them. I have a Rift for the PC. I tried downloading both versions of Oculus files on the download page. Neither work. I play the videos in rift threw the DEOVR app in the Rift. I can stream them by going to the webpage threw the DEOVR app once opened in the Rift, but cannot open a downloaded video I have saved to my PC. It just plays a black screen, although I can hear it playing... I have tried downloading the RIft file from the download screen, the occulus go and quest downloads, and the original files (the first one you can download from the downlaod page) nothing plays. Any ideas?

vortim22 Did you check the codecs I posted above? Sometimes re-installing also helps. EDIT: also, can you try the "Alternative player" setting in the main menu?

I will shed some more light into this and maybe this can help with my problem. For some odd reason, I have to use two user accounts for windows. My main account is where I do everything on my computer, play games, stream, download anything. etc. When I first got my Rift it worked great. Then windows had an update and to make a long story short, my Rift will no longer play on my main windows account. But I found if I created another account (with full admin access) my rift would work if I use it on that account (hooked up to same PC, I know its stupid but that is the only way it will work... occulus tech support cant figure it out). SO to play anything on VR, I just log into my alt account and everything works fine.

Back to this issue... when I download a video on my main account, I just transfer the file to a folder then log into my alt account and it wont play in VR. I have to issues stated above. I have done this with other VR videos and they work fine, but none that I download from this site. If I try playing the video on my main account, it will play (not using VR because VR wont work on my main account) but if I try playing the video not in VR it gives me a registery error and will not open under my second account. Not sure why, all other videos I download on the web work. I have tried downloading the file from my alt account and still the same thing. If I log back into my main, I can play the video with media player, but cant see if it works in VR because cant use VR on main account. Is it possible the register error has something to do with it. Also, on my main account when you look at the video where it is located on my harddrive, you can see a pic of the video like a thumbnail, if I log into my alt account, the video does not a have pic thumbnail, its just a white file like its not recognized,. I intstalled the LAV filters one form above on both accounts, but that didn't fix the problem.....

I've actually had this happen to me on streamed videos before on my android device, but I attributed it to my internet speed not keeping up, and lowering the quality usually fixed it.
I never had this issue consistently though, but I also don't tend to download videos because they take up relatively much space (and there's no limit on data-usage for me).

The "alternative if default not working” setting, should be visible in the main menu, under settings.

You're using the SLR app, right? Could you check if you get the same behaviour with DeoVR?

Othert than that, not sure if this would help but maybe worth a shot.
For registry errors sometimes reinstalling and deleting the reg data helps.

One option is to uninstall the app in C:\Users\%username%\AppData\Local\SLR VR Application\ (you probably did that once) and delete folder "C:\Users\%username%\AppData\LocalLow\SLR.

After you have deleted/uninstalled the app, run regedit.msc (you can do that through Start or Run command) and navigate to Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SLR\SLR. Delete this folder as well and perform a fresh install of our app from our site. Note that this should delete any data like saved settings from the app.

I not using the app, I am just using the web site. I never downloaded any app on my PC and just go to the web page where I can download the files. When using the Rift, I open DEOVR, and then go to the SLR web page threw the DEOVR app in VR and I can stream the vids since downloading wont play them....

Okay, well then if the app opens threw DEOVR then I am using the app, but it seems its just to stream, there are no videos in the app library, I can mark them as favorites and they show up in the favorite spot, but that is just streaming and not downloading them to play later. Its the download on the PC and play in VR that's not working... its just a black screen. I am not sure how to download them and store them in the app video folder.

vortim22 You have to download the videos first. You can download from the desktop site, there's a Downloads tab for each video.
Inside the app there is a folder icon on the bottom. If you click that, you can then navigate to any local files on your device.
