Looking to become a video creator

Guys I've been considering getting into video editing for a while.

I made a bunch of real high quality mash up vids for pornhub a few years back.

I'm definitely not an advanced editor but got pretty good with Power director and did the videos on my Samsung Note phone.

I just bought a laptop on a BF sale that I hope will meet the minimum requirements to make some 8k SLR video content.

CPU specs : ASUS TUF Laptop: 15.6" 1080p 144Hz, i7-12700H, RTX 4070, 16GB DDR4, 1TB SSD

From my research, I know it probably won't be incredibly powerful for 8k content but I am hoping it will at least be functional. Will adding another 16gb ram help considerably?

As for the software, I would prefer to continue to use power director as I became very good at using it for clipping and combining videos along with the transition s and special effects stuff. I found playing around with some of the other programs to be very hard to learn. I guess my question is can I reliably Mae 8k content with Power director for PC?

Any feedback appreciated. Really looking forward to making some incredible content like Manny , private jet , AP, All with and others have made. I already have a bunch of timestamps for various SLRoriginals videos saved that I will be looking to make some incredibly immersive PMV/compilation stuff with.

Mkramer1974 I highly recommend DaVinci Resolve (there's a great free version you can start with) and use their proxy workflow. It'll generate low res preview files you can use to edit, then it exports using the full size originals. That laptop should be plenty powerful to do it that way (though yes, I definitely recommend upping the RAM).

Wow thanks for the tip Mutiny. Your work with the special effects stuff is some of the best so far in the VR biz!

Davinci Revolve ? Ok Ill chk it out. I found Adobe and some other freeware just so hard to understand though. I have great familiarity with the Power director layout and interface since I've used it for years.

I love the idea of working with the lower res option though as that is much less taxing for a CPU to deal with.

Is resolve easier to get the hang of vs like a Premiere pro or Mastika (which I found to be like trying to figure out a pilots cockpit!) Is there a simple vs advanced layout like some of these applications have?

I think DaVinci is much easier/more reliable than Adobe (and I've used both for many years). There's always a learning curve, but there are some really killer tutorials on YouTube that can walk you through everything you need to know. One of the benefits of DVR over Adobe is that everything is in one program (edit, color, sound, gfx) using different tabs across the bottom of the program (it's INSANE that it's free). There's a "Cut" tab that's very simple, and more like what you might be used to with an online editor. (I've never used Power Director so I can't say for sure.) That said, the "Edit" tab is much more robust, so you'll want to get up to speed on it as soon as you can.

Mutiny you've convinced me to give DVR a shot. I will watch some of those YouTube tutorials to try and get up to speed quicker on it too.

Any suggestion on some of the better tutorials to watch first? Thanks again for all the help.

Watching one now and then will watch the one you linked.

The interface isn't as daunting as some of the others and seems fairly intuitive.

P.S: Since the focus will be VR editing I'm hoping davanci has specific effects and sections tailored for VR too!

Ok Mutiny and other Video Editor buffs willing to chime in......

My venture into video editing has begun!

I got the new CPU and downloaded Davinci. I had the task manager running side by side and noticed 2 things . 16gb ram maxes quickly on the cpu when running Divinci and editing 6k and especially 8k. Secpndly the CPU processor (i7) maxes quickly too.

I upgraded to 64gb ddr4 ram and installed it. Much smoother playback on 6k but still maxing CPU especially on 8k. CPU goes to 100% a lot but RAM is steady around no more than 30 to 35% (so far).

Looking for best solutions:
1.On the capture and playback options I see a set Timeline Proxy resolution at either full/half or quarter. Would this help?

Also a render cache option as none, smart or custom. Would setting this from none to smart help too?
