We’re actively working on how to take SLR’s AR/Passthrough content to the next level, and how to further step up the user experience to make AR content as mind-blowing as possible.

Part of that has been reviewing our PT content so far: the AR/Passthrough releases themselves, heatmaps of the scenes to identify the most popular & most watched segments, looking at user feedback in the scene comments, as well as reviewing user feedback & comments from right here in the SLR Forum.

So we thought we’d share a bit of what we’re working on, some of the things we’ve realized, and some of the cool plans coming up! The majority of this is specifically thanks to the time and efforts of @simsensemedia 😎

In general we've gotten some consistent user feedback on the below:

1.) less movement and less shifting between angles/positions
2.) achieve a consistent image scale
3.) nailing down the perfect key positions

Minimizing movement is an easy one, and achieving a consistent image scale should be simpler as we dial in our Canon mods. So one of the biggest focuses going forward (as well as most commented on by users) is nailing down the perfect angles for each position:

  • Ideal angles for Seated Segments

The “traditional” seated cowgirl while sitting in an actual chair. Sometimes this position can be a bit tough with shorter performers and can require other support for them like a table/etc.

The “alternative” style of seated cowgirl (copied from some JAV productions) where the male talent is lying down, but the camera is position where the viewer’s head would be.

In general, seated reverse cowgirl wasn’t as popular with seated positions, and while we will probably still include it in future releases it will likely have more limited screen time.

  • Ideal angles for Laying Segments

Finding the right angle for laying down segments can be a bit trickier since we obviously want to be able to capture both leaning forward and leaning back cowgirl…

…but this can depend & often needs to be adjusted based on the performer’s height. For taller performers the camera may need to be shifted a bit further back (like the above).

For shorter performers, it means the camera may need to be shifted a bit upward:

Fortunately the Canon is able to capture significantly better detail vs the Z Cam both with leaning forward AND leaning back, which is certainly helpful.

Again, similar to with seated segments - reverse cowgirl is generally less popular and less watched vs standard cowgirl, though we definitely feel the need to continue including some portion of it during laying segments.

  • Standing positions

Standing positions across the board haven’t performed as well as other positions in AR/ Passthrough, and currently the plan is to limit them to around 10% of screen time per release.

For standing missionary, the below angle seems to be more popular than the close-up angle:

Doggy generally seems to be the worst-performing segment, though it’s been very popular when we’ve been able to shoot “prone bone”, which sadly not every performer has the...assets for.

  • Foreplay/etc.

There seems to be a LOT of feedback requesting extended intro segments, stripteasing, stripper content, and other similar content to open up the scenes, which we plan to put more focus into. Trying to determine the optimal distancing is also something we’re looking at, for example we thought the distance with the below might be a bit too far away but it was in fact quite popular:

Otherwise, it’s about finding the most popular angles for foreplay, for example the most popular titjob angle:

  • Recapping Angles Overall

All in all the current plan is to aim for around 10% standing, 45% seated, and 45% laying segments in future releases. Generally the "close-up" versions of shots and been less popular than the "standard" versions (for example with missionary), though close-up angles might be worth looking at for some of the intro segments we're looking to focus more on.

It's been mentioned in a few threads as well, but we're also shifting focus to include more bgg+ AR/Passthrough content. Our first PT 3some release has performed very well and seems to have been a hit, and we have more on the way! Similarly, we are going to try to ensure that anal content is included more often for PT scenes 🍑

I'm sure I've forgotten some things and will be adding more to this thread as I think of them, but that's it for now. Let us know what you think!

    I definitely think getting the scale right should be priority number one.
    The first thing I noticed when watching your PT scenes was all the performers look smaller than they should be.
    Without the proper scale. Fine tuning camera distances and positioning might be premature. As it might slightly change once you dial in the proper scale.

    Thanks for the comprehensive update. I recently got a Quest 3 and am very excited for the future of these passthrough videos!

    I am a big fan of the laying 69, where the girl is on top.

    I am also a fan of kneeling missionary and doggy, where the male performer is kneeling. When propping up the female on something during kneeling missionary, in my opinion it’s best for her body to be horizontal and her head slightly elevated (like on a pillow) as this gives the best view of her face.

    My favourite ending is cum on tits, with the female laying down and the male kneeling over her. This position is seen in the tit fucking section of your PT scene Big N Juicy.

    Please consider including these positions in your upcoming passthrough videos!

      Thank you SLR for listening to feedback. My recommendation is to have some sort of grab bar rig that the performers can grab on to which is positioned adjacent to or behind the camera. This can make it look like they are grabbing the viewers shoulders, face or a natural prop like a chair backrest or headboard behind/above the viewer. It will allow for better mobility and support for them to really focus on the acting and focusing on user interaction (eye contact, etc.) without thinking of their balance too much.

      The foreplay/striptease/posing is definitely the best feature of PT. The AR components also help like props for a strip club or massage table or some bondage device.

      The big challenge of PT is lighting and positioning for the viewer. Being able to structure the story line to bring the experience to the viewers home would do the trick, otherwise rely on AR with CGI.

      Another good feature to have on the PT is to inform the viewer of viewing angles like you mentioned in the post. Recommended for sitting, standing, laying. Also the room lighting. Another would be viewer activity if you want the viewer to actively interact or passively watching and getting pleased by the performer.

      One idea for an active scene would be like fingering or some form of mixed JOI. All viewers have a bed or couch and you can easily put a performer there. Invite the viewer to be part of the action this will increase the interaction and immersion of the scene.

      PornoConnoisseur great taste! Definitely cum on tits with arms up. I've yet to see more cumshot angles from classic porn like performer kneeling and looking up to viewer with cumshot encouragement or even a cum countdown.

      justsomedude101 The more we talk PT, the more I'm reading a lot of feedback on content. I would recommend looking at various virtual sex POV content that's out there. One way to test the PT or MR market is to take advantage of the current shorts feature on the videos page. Try out multiple kinds of AR content ranging from virtual sex to 4 hand massages to JOI to GFE. There's plenty of room to experiment.

      I would recommend bringing in some indie performers/creators from Manyvids.There is proven success with a lot of niche content that's on there and they do well. It would be cool to adapt that kind of content into VR.

        Really cool to see you guys are onto this. Can't wait to see all this evolve.

        Just wanted to add that yes the striptease thing can be cool but it's just one of many ways to build up a scene. I think the most important part is to do some buildup in general. I'd like to see some more story elements in passthrough that play I into that your in your own room for instance. Some of the scenes released already have some nice buildup but I'd like to see that taken further. Like modern relationship or how JAV does a story.

        I also think that a more natural pacing works really well in passthrough. Like a VR edging scene or many of the jav scenes.

        I guess when it comes down to it I think the uninterrupted and more realistic scenes work the best for passthrough.

          This has been a problem forever on SLR and it's going to continue to be a problem unless a more scientific approach is taken to perfecting it. You need to walk before you can run though. Look at some of the obvious problems from the Simsense examples in your post:

          Nobodies eyes have line of sight to their own chin or neck, even when looking down as far as possible. So why is it that the male performer's chin and neck are visible??

          When someone is laying down do they ever have their head propped up at a 90° angle? No. Then why is the camera aimed parallel to the floor??

          Why is entire lower half of the frame wasted on the male's body? These shots could be framed so much better to highlight the girl.

                The position where the camera is is fine imo, it's not to close not to far, I can zoom in if needed, I'm actually zoomed out -80, but also you don't see his chin unless you actually tilt it to look at it.

                    justsomedude101 Doggy needs to stay in, a scene is rubbish if it has no doggy section whether in VR or PT. Particularly relevant for anyone whose favourite viewing angle is in doggy position which in real life is a common position enjoyed by many people, as much as missionary and cowgirl. These are like the 3 core positions in life lol

                    You may have a least well performing section in standard VR, it doesn't mean that this is evidence for removal. The logic goes that after you keep removing the least well performing section eventually you are left with one segment and if you remove that, you have no scene.

                      Vrsumo2017 The camera should not be closer - unless they decide to use a much taller guy but I do think the angle of the camera could be more realistic. Lots of AR feels almost like the '90 degree bend neck syndrome' we had in VR back in the days is back. At least to get it right it feels like I have to bend my head uncomfortably to get the 'view' right. I wish they would keep the same distance and angle the camera better and have the girl bend more forward for more time in this type of shot.

                      But they are still there, even if you can't see them irl. So the camera should not be moved closer if that's what you are referring to. No man's eyes sits lower than their nose, mouth, chin or neck. Yet for some reason in VR porn and now AR porn some people want the camera as low as possible and negate actual real life POV in sex positions.

                      I do agree that the angle could be improved though.
