  • Watching videos in immersive VR mode from browser no longer supported?

My setup is Quest Pro with the vanilla browser that comes preinstalled on the headset.

It's been a few months since I started noticing that getting into immersive mode from the browser stopped being available as an option for me. My experience using SLR used to be like this: log onto the website (not the Hub!), click on any video, get this option that tells you if you want to enter immersive mode, and there you go, you are on the video in a fully immersive 3D experience.

I no longer get the option to get into immersive mode, and now I have to use the Hub for that. I personally really dislike everything about the Hub, so to me the experience of using SLR is not good anymore.

I was wondering if this might be just a problem on my end (maybe my headset went crazy and I need to reflash it?) or if SLR actually stopped supporting immersive mode from the browser, and now the Hub is the only option. Other websites out there like badoink or vrbangers still support a vanilla browser experience, so I'm somewhat confused about what is going on.

Any support is really appreciated. If there is a link to some official announcement about not supporting immersive mode in the browser, that would be helpful too.

Cheers.

someuser994455 thank you for the feedback!

Could you please give us more details on what you don't like about the Hub? This would really help us improve on the user experience and work on the necessary adjustments.

Also, if you have any specific comments on what you would like from the immersive mode, please also let us know, as we are working on it and it should be added in the near future, so your thoughts would be highly appreciated.

      @Rakly3 @Kieshi

I will start by saying that you guys have not answered my question. Can you guys answer my question? I will repeat the question very explicitly here so that there is no ambiguity as to what I was asking, in the hopes that I can get an answer from you two:

I no longer get the option to get into immersive mode, and now I have to use the Hub for that. [...] I was wondering if this might be just a problem on my end (maybe my headset went crazy and I need to reflash it?) or if SLR actually stopped supporting immersive mode from the browser

Can you guys please answer the above?

With that said, let me focus on the question Kieshi brought up around disliking the Hub.

If I had to summarize everything in a very few words I would say this: it is tremendously difficult to beat the browsability and ease of use of a web browser with a custom in-house app, and the Hub is no exception.

The browser gives me significantly superior search and browsability capabilities. This is the #1 feature that I need when I'm watching porn: I want to be able to search for content of any kind, open a few tabs (right click->open new tab), watch them, go back to do a few more searches and open a few more tabs while not closing the previous tabs that I had already opened, etc., etc.. I can even have other porn websites open too!

The Hub kills all of that. It cannot simply handle it because the Hub is not designed to handle this rather common navigation pattern. The Hub is designed around having one porn experience at a time, and then exit it and forget about it. That's not how I watch porn, and I'm positive this is not how many people watch porn either.

There are other things that I dislike about the Hub. A few examples:

      1. Custom keyboard: as a user I'm used to my headset's keyboard. Using a different keyboard feels very unnatural.
      2. The search experience also feels clunkier. I just need a text box search field.
      3. The constant vibration from the controller every time you hover over any UI component is tremendously annoying.
      4. Navigation into a specific actress' profile... I might be misremembering here, but is that supported? With the browser you can simply click on the actress' profile avatar and navigate into it, but I do not think this exists on the Hub experience. Even if it existed it would not matter much though, because as I explained you can only have one thing open at a time!

      Please use the DeoVR app

@Rakly3 I can't install the DeoVR app. Why?

This is another aspect about this "install the app" phylosophy that I strongly encourage you guys to take a step back and reconsider. I share my headset with other people, and of course I don't want them to know I'm using the headset to watch porn. I cannot simply install apps that will raise any alarms, and this is what a browser in anonymous mode is specifically designed for.

Suggesting that people install a "DeoVR" is something that you should reconsider. Many poeple cannot simply do that, so suggesting the idea means that you guys are misunderstanding a significant part of your audience.

So, to me, the browser is not just the only viable option (I don't want to install an app), it is also the only good option when it comes to navigating the content that you folks offer. Your platform to me is a giant porn library that I want to effectively navigate, and the Hub is preventing me from doing that.

Other websites offer browser navigation with immersive mode. SLR used to offer it, but now you guys don't. @Rakly3 @Kieshi can you guys tell me if this will be supported ever again?

To be frank, had I known that you guys would remove this, I would not have bought a subscription. SLR is very unpleasant to interact with so now I'm somewhat avoiding it. There is the aspect also that I cannot genuinely understand why this specific feature would be removed: every other porn website, even free ones, support this. Why remove it? From a technicaly standpoint it's not a challenge really.

someuser994455 thank you for such a great feedback, we highly appreciate it.

Answering your questions: your device is fine, there is no immersive mode atm this is correct, but it will be back soon, we are working on it.

For the moment we would still suggest using Hub in its current state, at least for the time being, but we have plans to revamp it in the future.

        Kieshi hey 👋

I got one, on my phone on the slr website I can watch the trailers in the upcoming section but in the vr with deo they don't play.

Will they be able to play eventually in vr?

PLAYLISTS!!! Really hate not having those available. Agree that searching and finding the content that specifically appeals to me is harder in the hub.

          3 months later

@Kieshi it's been three months, and this is still not supported.

I would like you to answer a few questions. Please answer all of them:

          1. Is there any update on this front? Any work done?
          2. Is there a timeline you guys have in mind as to when this might be back?
          3. Are you guys simply not going to do this? I like honesty, if you guys are not planning to work on this I'd rather get that as an answer instead of getting some bogus "we working on it" that never ends up materializing.

          Thanks

someuser994455 hey, we did make VR mode available again last week, you need to exit the hub in headset, open video you want to watch and either push "Enter VR" or click on glasses button on the player panel, this will open immersive mode

Yes, it is working again. The image quality and options obviously aren't as high as in the app, but the ease of finding videos I enjoy makes up for it in most cases!

My Quest 2 browser just updated. Now when I exit a video I am taken back to the home screen of the quest rather than back to my SLR page in the browser. Do you know anything about this?

Also, is there a better browser to use with SLR than the standard quest 2 browser?

              Thanks!

sportclimber hi, does it happen every time you exit VR Mode? Are there any specific steps we can do to reproduce this?

Standart Quest 2 browser should work fine

                  Kieshi
OK. Subsequent viewings have not re-created the problem, so I think everything is fine. Weird.

I noticed that on top of image re-sizing, you have added fast forward/rewind in 4 second intervals, correct?

Thank you for your work on this!

sportclimber yes, correct! We will keep working on it and add more things in next iterations.
                    Glad everything worked out 🙂
