*Hopefully, the refresh rate for the LCD display(s) will start at 120Hz out of the box, We would not even be surprised if the Quest 3 pushed to 144Hz in some VR games or with post-launch updates.

Definitely an interesting device. Especially for passthrough. Hopefully they don't screw up with the fov though. That's my only concern.

fenderwq its still the same low fov that the quest 2 and pro have, just higher res

brawlicone Yeah I read that too, curious how the experience will be in practice though. I'm currently using a Pimax 8kx so it will definitely be a huge downgrade there but would like to experience some proper passthrough. Had the pico 4 for a while but wasn't overly impressed.

This should be a pleasant surprise for me when upgrading from my outdated Rift ... like experiencing the newness of VR all over again. Other than weight, everything else is better, so I plan on using it laying down more often than not. I can only imagine how weird it may feel seeing passthrough while laying down on my bed, like maybe a falling or rising sensation, vertigo, or some kind of phantom sense. Should be interesting.

my kid's q2 has been a foot from me for past few months and purposely not used it for the BIG jump about to see from q1 to q3

this will definitely bide the time until the apple comes out and also get to watch for the reviews on it

I’m also planning on getting one but do they generally announce things so close to release? I’m used to music/movies etc. where you see trailers and stuff months before release.

petermc I think the official Q3 announcement with a trailer was on 01 June, half week before Apple.

SchnuppiLilac yeah but they’ve never given any release date. Would they really just suddenly announce “it’s coming out next week”? I feel like they’d give themselves a month or two to properly launch it before it went on sale. I don’t know what they did with Quest 2 though so maybe they do just spring it on everyone at short notice.

They have some event this month I think and no doubt they will announce something then.

petermc the logistics is enormous. Sometimes I just think if I would be doing this it what would it be to orchestrate an army of things across multiple pipelines.

If nothing else we have to give them a kudos for headsets which they sell for $400-500 what in reality costs 10 times more to simply break even

petermc That's true, they only said that it will come this fall. Q2 was announced at FB Connect mid-Sep, I think pre-orders started immediately and release date was 4 weeks later. Q3 announcement at Connect is scheduled for Sep 27 acc. to Zuck.

In August, Amazon Canada briefly indicated a release date on Tue Oct 10 which would be already two weeks later. Q2 was released on a Tuesday as well.
