New Hacked 8k Scene???

Is this part of the new hacked 8k scenes you have been teasing with the canon system?

It's been teased on several posts over the past several weeks but I have not seen any actual post or announcement, apologies if I missed it, but this seems like pretty big news if so.

Is anyone at liberty to give us an update on that progress and what this means moving forward?

metichemsi Could 8K be a typo? Streaming version is 6K and here (https://www.sexlikereal.com/virtualreality/mosaic/id/35246) it's 5800x2900 for the 32 GB file

SchnuppiLilac I just downloaded the 8k version, look at it on the website, there is an 8k version and the file properties shows it's 8k. I'm not crazy I promise.... hahahaha

metichemsi No, no, I had no doubts about you but about what's written on the download button. It's a bit strange that the specs are all over the place: 6K streaming, 6K for a large file on the screenshots pic and the file you downloaded is 8K. So is the hack downscaling from 8 to 6 or upscaling from 6 to 8? I am confused 😃

SchnuppiLilac I have no idea, what is even stranger is that its using the same 200 lens profile which is what the k2 pro uses, the canon camera has a 190 lens profile. I'm thinking that they must have upscaled the original k2 pro footage up to 8k instead, but that's my guess so far. Unless they are using a completely different 8k camera, but I highly doubt that.

SchnuppiLilac I am even more confused, according to the blog they actually modified the canon lens and that sounds like they took it apart and reconstructed with a modified or new shell?????? I find that super hard to believe but if true that is super impressive and I cant even begin to imagine what that would be like. At first I thought that someone like izugar must have made them a custom lens using their 200 lenses with a makeshift RF adapter.

I'm still skeptical that they actually modified the canon lens, I remember a while ago izugar mentioned on FB that they were working on a lens that could be attached to existing cameras and never said anything more about that. It was around the time canon launched their VR lens. Part of the reason i am skeptical is because this new 8k scene still uses that izugar 200 lens profile, which makes no sense why this "modified" canon lens would suddenly go from being a 190 lens to a 200 lens. Does that make sense?

Sandi_SLR ahh ok that makes sense, you had us over here scratching our heads and reading sticks trying to figure out what is going on hahaha

Any word on how we could use those alpha channels on premiere to key the footage ourselves? I want to test out more CGI backgrounds but all your resent passthrough scenes use alpha and I cant figure out how to use that at all in premiere.

doublevr Very excited, schnuppiLilac shared the blog post you guys did about the 8k hack, super interesting.

Did you guys actually modify the body of the lens to achieve this or are you using a custom made lens for this camera? I dont know anything about modifying lenses but I know this one is more complex than a typical camera lens so the thought of modifying it to increase the IPD sounds like borderline voodoo to me haha

My brain is still fried from learning how to generate CGI backgrounds in unreal, I'll have to take up this project this weekend then because I really want to test some backgrounds on your newer alpha scenes while we wait for your app update that lets us use our own backgrounds.

Sandi_SLR Would be good if the program to make the mask had a way to reverse the process and return the mask file in its initial state but I dont see that option anywhere. The best I can come up with to work backwards from that list is to simply manually piece the sections for each eye and render them one eye at a time. It's a pain but I am currently rendering the left eye since it was only 2 pieces. Once that is finished I will attempt to piece the right eye and render that out. Once I have both eyes rendered I will manually place them above the footage and make sure they are positioned and scaled correctly and then render again the left and right eyes together. Once that is done I can use that final video as a chroma/luma mask. That sounds like a pain in order to simply key out the background on these luma scenes.

Anyway you guys can share with us the source alpha files instead? It would save us a ton of time reverse engineering those things back from the pieces we have on the video file.

Sandi_SLR No way! That's insane, can I take a guess at what you guys did? Is it safe to assume the modification was more of an "add-on" to the lens vs. actually modifying the OEM housing? You guys have always been very open with your gear and tech so the lack of additional info on the hack or at least pictures implies you guys want to keep this a secret for now, but I would die to know more if you are able to share. I have been doing some experimenting on my own but have not had a successful proto yet. I'm very skeptical to think you guys actually found a way to mess with all the internal elements and positions vs coming up with a super clever external low tech solution, which is something I'm experimenting with using mirrors
