rerun119 you seen the two lenses stitch together? It creates a side view too instead of just the front. 240 fov
Its just in development faze tho, but ffs the future of vr and vrp is going to be insane, kinda is now but few years from now, fuuuuck

Meta Quest Question: Don't you need to buy into Meta's user environment now? (still?) I don't know, I stopped using my Rift 2 S or whatever it was called at least three years ago. Maybe more.
As soon as I see the words "side load" in any post on here when referring to a headset, I tune out. It seems like I see that a lot in post about Quests.
So, maybe I haven't been paying attention. Is Meta a hassle to deal with or ? Will Quest 3 be worth giving your info to Facebook?
mebejoe "side load"
Thats usually used for if you need to install apps or transfer files from another device using USB.
Quest 2 is simple, you just download deo vr or any vr players directly from the quest store, and theres a few vr apps that will let you stream videos from your computer to your headset. No sideloading really needed. And they changed how to make an account, use to be you needed a fb account but not no more, you just sign up with an email.
Only sideloading I ever done and l very rarely do is with sidequest if I wanna download a game or something which I hardly ever do.
Imo, all you really need is deo vr if you wanna stream from slr or other studios. To keep it simple.
Nowadays I guess you can just set up a new Meta account with a name, birth date and e-mail address if you are fine with that. I think payment data are not needed unless your purchase something.
Signing up in the past with a Facebook account was a bit problematic in my view because this may have exposed the 'VR gamers' among FB friends.

Thanks! Then I will probably add the Quest 3 to my collection. The two I use most right now are the HP Reverb 2 and the Picc 4. Color pass through is amazeballs.
Wait. Do people still say amazeballs? Yesterday 21 year old office assistant laughed when I told here I "slayed" something, and she told me that is, "like three years ago.."
She told me now people say they "popped off" on something. WTF? I couldn't even begin to discuss with her where that must have come from.
What's next? If I gave a good presentation, I'm going to say that I busted a nut all over the audience.
mebejoe you don’t have to sign up to Facebook anymore, just register for a meta account. Not sure if that is any better or not in terms of people’s privacy concerns but I’m happier without having a Facebook account.
Sideloading is purely for games/apps that are not available through the official meta store. I have only ever sideloaded Heresphere, nothing else.
I sold my Pico 4 cause the FOV was too big a compromise compared to my Pimax 8kx. However, I kinda want a new headset with good passthrough. So who knows. I really hope they increase the FOV by a good margin. If so, I might just get one.
mnmlikereal nothing yet, it's just developers developing them and trying to sell them to vr companies.
You can watch the video
fenderwq I sold my Pico 4 cause the FOV was too big
Ah man, you could of bought the amvr pico face guard and put a thick cushion from vrcover on it and made the fov smaller.
But pico 4 fov is way noticeably bigger then quest 2. After a few days using the pico 4 I decided to put the quest 2 on and I literally lol at the small toilet paper rolls size lens
Vrsumo2017 Yeah, I still found the fov small with no face cusshion... Guess I'm spoiled by my 8kx
I am still using a quest 1 so I am definitely upgrading.
The only concern for me is that all my previous low quality downloads are going to be so pixelated they look like minecraft
curious when they say more realistic color passthrough, anyone know if it's stereoscopic color passthrough or black and white with a separate mono color camera adding the "color" layer?
My Pimax Crystal (2880 x 2880 per eye, 35 PPD with 42 PPD lenses coming eventually) is paid for.. awaiting shipment.. but Quest 2 got me into real VR, besides the first step of quickly testing on those cheap, basic cell phone based ones. So it's nice to see an update to the Quest, even though rumors seem to be that it won't be a significant upgrade as far as pixel count, PPD, clarity goes. That's why I went with the Pimax Crystal. I'd still likely recommend this Quest 3 for new users getting into VR though. Although I don't like the Facebook account requirements.
Apple Reality Pro (or Reality One) is supposed to be announced in a few days at WDCC, June 5 at 10:00 a.m. PDT. Supposed to have around about 4k x 4k resolution per eye, $3000 price tag, standalone or probably only work with apple computers or maybe apple phones. Also unsure you're going to get that full 4k x 4k native. Assuming it could be upscaled or foveated rendering, where only the middle is full clarity and beyond that is progressively more blurry (whether you would notice this or not, since it's in your peripheral vision, I don't know). We'll see in a few days.
To add some other opinions.. In case some readers are deciding what to get.. Until the Pimax Crystal shows up, I recommend the HP Reverb G2 if you have PC. I prefer the better clarity and light weight over the higher FOV (field of view) Pimax 8KX, which I also have, so I'm not just talking from guesses or what I've read. Other people may prefer the higher field of view, but to me.. clarity is king.. as long as the FOV isn't stupidly small.

"too big a compromise"
I don't think you understood what he meant. He meant the Pico 4 FOV was to small.
rerun119 I sold my Pico 4 cause the FOV was too big
Lol, yeah I thought he ment his Pico 4 was to big, bigger then pimax, lol I was confused too, like but I thought pimax bigger then Pico , lol
Vrsumo2017 Hahah, no no, the 8kx is a anything but small. Still think it's more comfortable to wear strangely enough. I just hate the back strap of that thing. Apple is going to place the battery in your pocket so I hope that will set a trend.
