Anyone watched the new 12k VRBANGERS scene?

I'm very tempted to sign up just to watch it and get a few other new scenes that have come out since I last subscribed to the site, but was curious to see if anyone already had any feedback on it?

Most of those who have watched it so far have only watched the 8k and 6k versions of it. I have also watched the 8k version of the scene on the Quest 2 standalone and noticed a significant improvement in the surroundings. The environment looked much more realistic and sharper. However, as for the actress's body, it's almost the same as any other scene shot in 8k over there.

According to their instructions, they tried it on both Meta Quest 2 and Pro connected to a PC via Oculus Link, equipped with Nvidia 3090ti, 4090 GPU. IMO, if you want to subscribe to VRB for that specific scene only, I don't think it's worth it, especially with that casting. However, if you're interested in the rest of the content, it's totally up to you.

[deleted] yea, I dont have the latest GPU and only Deovr was able to load the video, I had to pause the video to see a frozen frame because playback was impossible. From what I could see, the quality was very impressive but not worth a sub for sure, I'll also wait for better talent to get the 8k versions moving forward.

i dont think anyone can play the 10k or 12k versions properly. the 8k version has a sharper image than what theyve had historically but the motion isnt completely smooth now... so its more of a tradeoff than a win and i wasnt wowed by it overall.

looks like they released it just for bragging rights. "look everyone! we did 12k first!!" and i suspect it will be a one off or one of only a few 12k scenes.

spacepirate 100% agree, as usual, they wanted to beat everyone to the marketing fluff regardless if it was even watchable.

I was very impressed by the 12k. Kind of subscribed just to check it out. But yeah, nobody can play it back properly.
8k is also very nice. I'll wait for a scene whit someone I like to fully test it though 🙂

Last time we tried that DuoFM camera it was absolute garbage. 12K makes no sense as GPU can only handle 8192x8192@30FPS or 8192x4092@60FPS for VR180 thus it must be downscaled to 8K.

We are focus on realistic scale with our camera and greater perception of things in stereo.

12k downscaled to 8k should still look better than native 8k though...

doublevr How are you planning on handling your new 10k rig? Will you be shooting in 10k and then downscaling to 8k so people can actually watch it? I'm not a huge fan of the K2 but your team has still managed to get some very crisp and good looking images out of it, so I would not be surprised if you end up settling with 8k moving forward.

doublevr I wish someone had recorded a super high fidelity VR video of Nancy A. or Brenna Sparks back in the day - maybe they couldnt have played the videos back then, but in 2023 those videos would be solid gold!

doublevr Really encouraged by the approach to 12K (in other words, avoiding it), 12K just doesn't make sense and won't for a while. There is so much scope for improvement with resolutions we can actually use. Thanks for focusing on image quality instead of chasing numbers, it's exactly what I was hoping to hear 👍

Unwatchable on Heresphere right now.

The player simply doesn't work for this one, says that either codecs are missing (though I have both HEVC and the full k-lite package installed) or that the format doesn't follow Media Foundation rules or whatever...

LordCrash right. my understanding that we can get much bigger gains by getting the scale and stere right with current 8K and 6K.
doing just resolution is kinda easy. we have made true 10k 60FPS but it's useless until you get the rest right

LordCrash fm duo cant do 12k at 60 fps so it means having to interpolate to 60 fps which is dumb. its a waste of resources and still gives a poor result. better off just recording at 8k 60 fps..

doublevr I agree!
scale is way more important than a little bump in resolution. Why most 8k content is garbage compared to studios that use lower resolution cameras with good scale. So unless can get the higher resolution with good scale best not to use.
good scale=good immersion.

After having read some feedback on this scene, it seems that I was not the only one who thought that the surroundings benefited the most from whatever new set-up or technology VRB was using. I was most impressed by how sharp and detailed the city and skyline in the very far background looked.

Not knowing the first thing about video photography, how is it possible that filming in 12K alone can lead to such a result in a downscaled 8K video? Wouldn't you rather need improved optics to achieve such improved depth of field? Just wondering: Could it be that the whole 12K thing is just a decoy or marketing stunt and the actual breakthrough lies in another area (from which current standard 8K/6K filming could benefit as well)?

Is resolution now more important than girls or the immersion that a well-shot VR gives you? 80% of what I watch is JAV VR, which is at 4K and sometimes the image quality is crap.... But I wouldn't trade it for a VRBangers movie at 12K....

im just waiting to decide on which headset to get once the latest one comes out and i see reviews of it so i can actually watch more than just the 4k videos i can handle just fine with my desktop 😭

[deleted] I stopped using playa a long time ago but DeoVR was at least able to open the video and attempt to play it, albeit at like 1 frame per 20 seconds haha I was at least able to click pause and wait for the paused video to load the image and preview the quality of a paused 12 video. It looked great, better resolution than anything I have seen before. Looked like everything within 10 meters of the camera was perfectly in focus and sharp. It's a shame nothing can play 12k right now. I tried to encode it to h.265 but premiere pro could not even export h.265 past 8k

10k and 12k wasn't playable on my Quest 2, could only play the 8k video but it looked nice. I don't know if the camera used to shoot in 12k improved the 8k image as well or if I'm just seeing an improved 8k because I expected it. I can't tell for sure.
