Heya! I ran through some local testing with subtitles and thought it might help to give feedback.

Overall, it's better than I thought it would be. There are some tweaks that could kick it up a notch but it's a good starting point.

  • depth can get messed up. Any way to make the depth fixed so it doesn't change with the video's depth? It makes the subtitles unreadable for medium depth to close up shots
  • having controls for the y-axis of the subtitles display would be nice
  • some video titles have special characters like ":" which break local subtitle playback because of the Window's OS filesystem. I tried this as my first video but it didn't work, https://www.sexlikereal.com/scenes/kaho-imai-15th-anniversary-special-ejaculation-denial-with-kaho-imai-25763
  • the default subtitle position in the middle of the screen is sort of weird, could it be towards the bottom like most subtitles are in movies?

The depth problem is the biggest deal breaker. It gives that double vision kind of issue where the subtitles are placed in different spots for both eyes. Same type of issue as when a woman comes in for a kiss and her face goes all haywire. If subtitles could render in the same spot and be independent of the video's depth, that might fix it.

The other things were more minor. I really like the existing options for opacity and font size.

This video didn't really have depth issues:

dudder The depth problem is the biggest deal breaker.

Yep. It's a real challenge. I discussed this idea earlier on a conversation about attempting split screen:

Mutiny But it's not just about separating them in the frame, you also have to consider depth. If you use a mask to key out one and place them over the other, the effect will break your brain if they're located in the same slice of depth from the lens, or if the one keyed behind the other is actually closer to the lens. Your eyes and your brain will disagree on what's happening and it's deeply unpleasant.

I ran into this on my most recent PMV edit. I did a credits sequence at the end where I used a freeze frame from each scene I included with the title of that scene floating in space near the performer, but I had to position each one manually.

And I realize now I actually got this one wrong. "WET IN" intersects with the windshield and causes that visual glitch.

There's currently no simple plug-and-play fix. One potential option might be placing the text very close to the viewer and making it really small. Or you could try off to the side, or way up high, but those don't seem ideal.

It's definitely something to continue experimenting with. Thanks for sharing your data with us!

Hey @dudder, thank you so much for feedback.

    • if something comes closer then the subtitles it will break the stereo on the thing you are not directly focusing on. We might consider something automatic, or maybe adding depth parameter support into the subtitles itself.
    • you have full control of position, any special reason to have Y separated?
    • we will check the bug with character, can you elaborate how does it break?
    • the default position is actually there on purpose, so it doesn't hide behind the player UI, after you set it to your preferred location it should stay there for all videos

Howdy I finally got back to testing things out.

    1. What if the subtitles were rendered in mono on a layer in front of the video? It seems like that would make the words readable. Rendering them in stereo doesn't work because they end up in two different places for both eyes.

    2. I didn't have a setting to adjust the Y-axis position. There were some other controls for font size, depth, and one other thing. It's pretty minor though. The main benefit is for the immersion. The subtitles are nice but some people might want them on the edge of view to focus more on the content. The X axis could help too depending on the video angle.

    3. It's more of a problem with windows. The filesystem will block the ":" and other special characters. Just a weird edge case. It might be possible to use a different character that looks visually identical but isn't a blocker for windows.

    4. Putting it in the middle is a good choice. That's my bad on going too quick. Having it in the middle makes it obvious that subtitles are on.

dudder Hey, for 1. can you try putting them in max depth, far away, then increase the size so you can read, it should mimic having them mono, does that help you?

Thanks for the suggestion! I tried doing that but it doesn't quite work. The stereo subtitles still end up in different spots for both eyes. I think that might be the biggest reason for the subtitles showing up weird. They're easy to read in mono because the words show up in the same spot with the same depth and all.

It might be something that the underlying video player needs to have custom support for. That seems like it could be kind of tricky to add but maybe it would work?

Here are a couple pics to show the difference in positioning for stereo vs mono.

wow im very interested in this for all the JAV , how would one get an srt file to work together with a downloaded scene and script ?

        17 days later

sooo i just tested out an srt file for 3dsvr-628 using SLR app and DeoVr and wow i love it. It was good enough for me and just shifted it slightly to the left or right depending where it wouldnt get in the way 🥰 i am very excited for mor subtitled JAV

I have seenthis scene sooooo many times that by just having those subtitles, i gained a whole new layer of immersion, with how for example , she would say “wow look at your girlfriend, she put it in on her own” and “ Dont worry , she cant see us” while looking over at the girlfriend , and wow when she would say that , i would actuallyplay along and look over and then glance back at her, it was amazing. That was a big boost of immersion 🥳🤩

I guess we should add feature for users to put a text anywhere on a video from the web. We might add it into byoj admin @Sandi_SLR
