[deleted] It would be pretty stupid of VRB to release a scene that no one can watch. The upcoming scenes preview says it will be an 8K video shot in 12K.

still plugging away with the Q1....patiently waiting for NEW ones to come out this year. my kid not really using the Q2 and it sits about 2feet from me, but i don't want to ruin the excitement of getting one of the new models with 2 jumps in performance, so have not tried any slr type stuff...might be good idea to keep it off his headset 🙂

VRB is just gonna downsample to 8k and plaster 12k everywhere, that's my guess at least (doubt they will use some tricks to better utilize the pixels within the 8k limitations either).

Still, there is room in 8k to be maxed out similar to bad and good 4k JAV (also needs good lighting etc. of course). So technically it could still be a big improvement to downs ample from 12k. Then there is the future proofing argument. Still, I'm not gonna hold my breath though but can't deny that I'm curious because who knows

Just checked out the VrBangers 12k (60fps) sample and the quality is quite stunning on my 8kx. Very, impressive. Scaling etc. looked good too but the sample didn't really have any closeups.
The thing is is that it's encoded in h.264 so the playback is very choppy even on a 4090. Curious as to how they expect us to play this back but I must say I'm very excited about the potential.

Hunky-Dory outdoor parts almost always look good (provided the bitrate is high enough) because there is so much light

Hunky-Dory Haha yeah, same for me, I was pleasantly suprised too (can't wait for a non-milf scene). Curiosity got the better of me so I re-subbed.
Below are the specs (in short: 90Mb/s, 12288x6144 at 60fps).
Already asked them to release a 30fps version so we can see it in action without stuttering. I'm also hoping, DeoVr or Heresphere will find a way around the decoding limits. Like playing two movies at the same time one for for the left eye and one for the right eye. Playing two 8k movies simultaneously in Mediaplayerclassic works flawlessly on my setup so it should be possible...

Hunky-Dory I mean you'd just have two files on disk but nothing else changes when watching scenes. Seems like a nice tradeoff for me to be able to watch at 12k 60fps

Hunky-Dory if you see any blockiness or similar in an outdoor scene its because the bitrate is too low... plain and simple. most studios have the bitrate too low so you might not have ever seen an outdoor scene in its full glory. i know czechvr has a couple of good ones.

spacepirate Have you watched this specific VRB scene? I watched the 8K version and was most impressed by how detailed grass and trees on the terrace and the city skyline far in the background look (despite a rather cloudy sky). This is definitely next level, nothing remotely similar on CzechVR. Same goes for stuff in the background inside the house.
However, the most important part of the video in the foreground was rather underwhelming. The hairline or interdental spaces seemed more detailed but not skin texture. In fact, skin looked rather as usual, maybe a compression artifact due to the make-up.
