Really well said and really well articulated points @justsomedude101 👍️
CzechVR is an excellent example of companies learning things about scripts the harder way - I used to work for them in another life and since leaving their script quality has significantly dropped, much lowered output and they seem to continue to struggle to find quality reliable scripters to this day
I think its really important to note that scripting actually involves alot of skill and thus scripters and script quality are not always equal
There are some really bad scripts out there, and and there are some really good scripts out there - the good ones are where the magic is at. They can be crazy good and incredibly immersive, and very much worth paying for and returning to time and time again
LordCrash But why don't you just approach your free-lancing scripters and try to buy the rights for their scripts for former SLRO scenes? That way you would ensure that they're not gone in the long run, no matter what happens. And you wouldn't discourage anybody doing new scripts, maybe even quite the contrary. Maybe some are just happy with a bigger paycheck by you guys, who knows? Have you even thought about that possibility?
@LordCrash - I know for sure that I wouldnt have created nearly as many and nearly as high quality scripts that I have here on SLR ever since without SLR's current creator system in place
Any significant changes to the current system could actually significantly change my incentive and motivation, so as long as that remains, then its business as usual and there is nothing to worry about as a scripter and also a customer
bobbytables doublevr I don't pay youtube a chunk of money every single month for access to scripts on a video platform that i pay significantly more for. What an incredibly bad faith argument. If you want to compare yourself to youtube then fine, make your premium cost $10/month and offer unlimited downloads. If you don't intend to do those things then don't compare yourself to youtube.
I think a better fairer comparison is Netflix or Spotify
Studios add and remove their content on those platform all the time, but Netflix also creates their own original content, and that's the content that makes sense that it will perpetually remain
Also, its really important to note - you never own anything you watch on Netflix, you can only stream it while subscribed, so once your sub expires there is nothing to keep, which is very different from SLR where you do get to keep content after the fact, including scripts
spacepirate thats what everyone says... until they are no longer happy or no longer needed.
Really hope not and not sure why that would ever change or if I should be at all concerned?
I think a big part of my continued happiness here and feeling of being needed here is because of amazing support from the many invaluable customers like yourself here, so really hope that continues
