Hey everyone, good news, we scheduled this into 13.8 release, so expect it live in the middle of March!

I will follow up with a full guide for other studios, since they can prepare it up front if they choose so.

New era for passthrough is just around the corner 🙂

    Sandi_SLR excellent news! for me passthrough is the main drawcard to owning a VR headset.

    I don't understand a lot of the tech behind it. But I am excited about new PT content and the prospect of being able to watch my favorite existing non-passthrough scenes with full passthrough functionality and no weird artefacts or invisible hair/eyes or inside the actresses mouth.

    I know you guys have been getting some heated backlash from a very vocal minority of posters for daring to experiment and develop this new tech and release the content for users to enjoy in the here and now.

    Unfortunately sometimes there are people who can't be pleased. But to add some positivity.. please know that some of us really appreciate what you're doing and can see that by developing PT you're investing in the future success of SLR.

    PT is highly likely to be the next big thing with watching porn using a HMD, and you guys are bringing it closer all the time.

        Jacksonjdr94 Thank you for encouraging words, knowing what we are doing behind the scenes, I will repeat, what I wrote before, that there will be a point where all videos will be shot normally and have choice of good passthrough experience if one chooses it. No more need for greenscreen in porn production. Then we will look at this period as unnecessary banter and chill.

            Always appreciate research and testing to push the limits. I have been personally manually keying my own footage on the greenscreen videos so far with excellent success. Even though my pimax headset does not have passthrough, I am using some old footage from when I still owned a K2 pro and it matches scale perfectly with your scenes. I am able to greenscreen my own custom backgrounds and the resolution is as good as the main video, something I doubt any headset with cameras will be able to match for several more years.

            One quick question with this update. Will these changes remove greenscreen moving forward and will these updated scenes still allow us to key out the background on premiere?

              metichemsi yes, we are removing the greenscreen and baking it into alpha, so basically we are doing the keying for you. You will be able to assemble the alpha in premiere and use it as matte.

                  Sandi_SLR Incredible! Dont listen to all the hate regarding passthrough, the problem is that most of them have not even experienced a decent passthrough experience. The passthrough effect on premiere with footage from the same camera and at similar angle is incredible. Now i just wish i would have kept my K2 Pro in order to go out and shoot some more background locations for these videos before i upgraded to the R5C. That or you guys upgrade to the R5 C hahaha

                    Quick update!

                    The feature is in testing phase and it should be released at start of next week as part of 13.8.1

                    And the rest will follow as fast as our editors can get it out.

                    When we manage to convert all the greenscreen videos, we are also returning all videos under SLR Originals studio, since it should be much easier to watch them now, without that green color 🙂

                          Will65 lol, it wouldn't be something I'd use on a daily but be cool to witness. Technology is getting very cray cray, when I'm HAF sometimes its kinda scary thinking about it and where it's going. 😮

                            how can non-fisheye vr180 videos use this?
                            can it handle semi-transparent pixels in the alpha or only full opacity & full transparency?
                            and how come that we can't use a file type that supports alpha channel like .webm or .mov?
                            anyways, i'm really looking forward to it 😋

                                • converting equirectangular projection to fisheye should be no problem
                                • its 8bit, so I that means 256 shades of grey / transparency
                                • it is down to player our app uses, of course using video format with alpha would be cool, nothing we can do at the moment about it sadly

                                  alina Still not ready, we had to move it to next release (scheduled on 17 April) due some stubborn bug our devs had to solve.

                                  So this is how it will look for non passthrough viewers, no more solid green BG.

                                  One good thing is that we got extra time to do proper color correction, I will sit down with post production team to get best result possible.

                                      that is a monumental step! great work! 🙌
                                      so you mentioned up top to maybe script a ffmpeg tool that takes a prepared alpha matt, breaks it into pieces and places those pieces on the fisheye video. is that something you can provide pretty please? 👉👈🥺
