Hey guys, we will be introducing a "new" format for greenscreen videos soon.

Since we can't have videos with alpha channel, we decided to pack the alpha around the fisheye circles.

And the results are great, no more chroma key deleting all the fine hairs and no more green spill on the actress!

Of course we wont forget about non-SLR studios, we will write up a guide for anyone to do this, maybe a tool to do it with ffmpeg (its quite easy to do it with any postprocessing app anyway). All they need need to prepare is an alpha map next to original video.

Subsequently this also solves the issue some had with pure green BG on our greenscreen releases, since, as you can see, the original file will be spill suppressed (no green) from the get go, so it would make watching it without passthrough much more enjoyable.

Will keep you updated how it goes 😉

thatthotok Not yet, we made a proof of concept with developers and wanted to share the excitement.
We will try to get it into release as soon as possible.

Ok then, and what about that green body suit you invented in the latest passthrough scene?

How do you want to fix that for those not interested in (or capable of displaying) passthrough

The scene with Dora is practically unwatchable without passthrough. Huge bummer.

LordCrash Hey, I am here to offer technical solutions where I can. Originals are not my domain, but I will say we are witnessing an experimental period, where users will vote with view time and likes. Will it stick? No idea...

Don't get me wrong, your effort is very much appreciated. It's just so disappointing that you actually wanted to help and that you actually came up with a possible solution only for the guys in production to ruin it right away with their next scene.

And I don't see the option to downvote something. I have no idea how likes alone should be an actual good measurement for public appeal.

Anyway, like I said multiple times before, experimental scenes shouldn't get in the way of the final product people are actually paying for. If that only was for experimenting you could easily shoot some test footage with girls after regular scenes (or before) like "Hey girl, before we start with the actual VR scene, let's just shoot a few minutes in front of a greenscreen. We'd like to take the footage for our innovation centre and feedback loops in order to make passthrough stuff better and somewhat market-ready in a few months or years".

LordCrash I don't see the option to downvote something. I have no idea how likes alone should be an actual good measurement for public appeal.

          Nailed it again.

LordCrash Agree! Experiments don’t have to impact the main content until it’s ready. It really is a shame to miss opportunities to make potentially great scenes with great casts with these experiments. The experiments should be bonus content, not trying to replace the main content before it’s perfected. It doesn’t make sense the way it’s currently happening. Calling this an experimental phase is really just an excuse for failing. SLR should be focused on what it knows how to do, release that content and experiment on the side, not failing front and center.

LordCrash I have no idea how likes alone should be an actual good measurement for public appeal.

Just talking generally here: my understanding is that there is a direct correlation between the amount of likes a scene receives and its general popularity in terms of downloads/time streamed/usage in playlists/etc. etc. etc.

I've seen a lot of seemingly credible theories about how likes/favorites could be misleading due to A, B, or C, which all could certainly (and probably do) factor in. But at the end of the day the data doesn't lie, and the data says that "likes" are far and away the best predictor of overall popularity.

justsomedude101 so stick in a dislike button to see how far the likes go down then. I’m betting dislikes outweigh likes by a factor of at least two.

or just ignore this and continue to pretend that “data science” is a standard practice at SLR.

LordCrash This scene was shot way before I started working on this problem. I can agree with @justsomedude101 that likes and watch time are quite related. The only thing I can influence is to bother post production to do a better job, for producers decisions you will have to voice, as you did, it in thread like this one https://forum.sexlikereal.com/d/3506-can-we-please-get-non-greenscreen-versions
You can also try a poll asking people do they like it, undecided, or dislike?

One thing I will add, that we are still actively working on a solution for converting normal videos into passthrough. When we figure it out, there will be no need (or discouraged) to shoot on greenscreen... This should end the experimentation period.

                Sandi_SLR experimentation period

fyi we are not lab rats. we are customers who are paying for quality content.. not unwatchable experiments

Wow, lord personally think you should cut Sandi some slack! Sandi was just sharing some potential improvements behind the scenes for pass through. Although I agree that sometimes content gets wasted but I make that case a shit ton of scenes. Milfvr for example has a shit ton of great scenes but the fact the footage is low resolution completely kills the experience for me. Or those videos where the camera they use makes all the models small. The ratio kills the immersion, or when cameras are not centered for blowjob or cowgirl scenes. All these in my opinion also ruin a perfectly good scene. Sandi experiments on one scene that was a studio decision and you bite their head off. Without experimentation their will never be growth or improvements. On side note do you even have a vr headset that is capable of pass through? Have you tried it ? Or do you just hate pass through in general based on your reaction? Give Sandi a break! Keep up the great work Sandi, I know I and others appreciate it!

can this method work with flat screen scenes too ? and like add depth and 3d to it ? and put in sbs mode if wish ?

how this method work ? or is this method just for make it easier and better accurate to cut out background on any vr scene and play in passthrough ?
or im on wrong path and misunderstand ?

would like to see a probe of this and figure out how it works...rly interesting looking stuff you do here guys...

dudu32 Hey, this is merely to carry info on which pixels are see through. So BG removal, baked into the video, then it doesn't need to be computed on headset, so not only the result being much better, we won't loose any fps.

So same as you have alpha channel with images, we mimic this by adding the alpha channel around the fisheyes, since we can't have it included in the pixel itself.

Sandi_SLR It just clicked for me how utterly brilliant this solution is. You're basically smuggling the alpha channel in the trunk of the car. Genius.
