Since we're discussing HereSphere in comparison to DeoVR, I wanted to share some observations I made regarding image sharpness and quality. Specifically, I’m comparing the DeoVR app, DeoVR WebXR, and the HereSphere app.

Tested Device: Meta Quest 3
Media Used: 8K – Master Training (https://www.sexlikereal.com/scenes/master-training-49362)

The DeoVR WebXR player was accessed via the Meta Quest Browser, while the DeoVR app and HereSphere were tested using their respective native Quest applications.

Observations:

DeoVR App (Stream):
The DeoVR app stream offers good clarity but appears slightly softer compared to the HereSphere player. This softness is likely due to video compression during streaming. For example, if you observe the hard edges and straight lines in the background, HereSphere renders these with noticeably sharper precision.
DeoVR WebXR (Stream):
The DeoVR WebXR stream delivers a sharpness level similar to the DeoVR app but with slightly softer edges. This could be due to rendering limitations or the way the Meta Quest Browser handles WebXR content, which can sometimes reduce overall sharpness.
HereSphere (Local Playback):
HereSphere provides the highest level of sharpness and clarity among the three. Both the subject and background details appear significantly crisper, with no visible compression artifacts likely due to the advantages of local playback over streaming. Additionally, HereSphere’s color balance is more pronounced, resulting in a more lifelike appearance with enhanced lighting and contrast.

*It’s important to note, however, that the differences in sharpness among all three are very minor for any non-judgemental eyes. The distinctions highlighted above are subtle, and most users would only notice them upon close inspection, try inspecting this video on a 4K screen for better visibility.

Which 8K file did you download for the local playback, 16 GB (Max 8K) or 81 GB (Original 8K)?

SchnuppiLilac curiosity here on what difference would one see between those two 8K versions? (im a noob to how these resolutions work) and also considering heresphere due to the issue with subtitles on DeoVR recent version.

Bucket619 The difference that there is is that the 'Original' file in the Master Training example has a bitrate of 142 Mbps while the 'Max 8K' version is transcoded/compressed from the 'Original' and has a bitrate of close to 30 Mbps for a good streaming experience. So the 'Max 8K' is the 'Original' minus 80% of its data.

Question now is, will you actually notice a difference when watching these two versions, let's say on a Q3? I think it's safe to say that five times higher bitrate will not make the visual quality being perceived as five times better. But you may perceive it as an improvement (the magnitude of improvement being highly subjective).

I would recommend to test it on yourself by downloading and comparing both versions of the same scene. https://www.sexlikereal.com/scenes/master-training-49362 is a good example as the 30 Mbps version looks very good already. Maybe look at skin texture in close-up positions when looking for differences. If you personally don't notice an improvement, you may save yourself the hassle of downloading giant files in the future.

Bucket619 I don't know about other SLR members experiences between the Original Studio file (Which is NOT the Raw VR Camera file BTW, but I would say not far from it in terms of visual quality) and the SLR Re-encoded file (from the Original file) for streaming and downloading (Yes, "Re-encoded" because the Original file is already encoded from the VR Camera Raw file) Otherwise, believe me, it can reach terabytes in size!

So, I'll talk about my own experience here with all respects to others. In simple word, Yes, I can tell the difference in quality between the two files by the following:

1- Look at the faraway areas or when a girl walks from far to close to you. You will notice how much sharper the Original file is, especially in the area between the background and girl hair.

2- Look at dark scenes or black areas/ objects and you'll notice square splotches in the Re-encoded file which are absent from the Original one.

3- Look at the girl face and eyes when in missionary position for example and notice the difference in details between the two files. In the Original you can see more skin details, even the tiny Acnes under the makeup (for good or bad) and the eyes look more natural, reflective and sharp unlike the Re-encoded file which can't reveal such details in the face and the eyes look "almost" blurry and unnatural and not as reflective.

With that all said, it's not like the SLR Re-encoded file is THAT bad or anything, No, at all. I'm actually still impressed how they can reach this level of quality with that file size. So, yeah, kudos to SLR encoding team!

In addition to SLR's great encoding job. There are situations when some really... How I say it in a respectful way... "inexperienced?" Studios that encode their Raw VR Camera files in questionable codecs like MPEG-4 from the 90's! OR using AVC/ H.264 for resolutions higher than 4K which is ridiculous! Because in these cases you can't play these videos smoothly at all by using hardware acceleration like GPU decoders for example because they don't support these resolutions in these codecs! Kudos to SLR encoding team again for saving us from these """Studios""".

In the end, see for yourself and decide by your own vision quality and unbiased judgment. If the Re-encoded file is good enough for you go ahead, you'll NOT lose that much TBH. If not, then, Original is your new way.

For me. I only download the Original as long as it's in HEVC/ H.265 or the soon to be added "AV1" for any resolution higher than 4K as I can see the difference as I said previously. Actually, Original files are what keeps me an SLR Dweller :p

SchnuppiLilac You can't do a good comparison by naively switching between the videos in a video player like most people do. The differences are all in the fine detail and not easily noticeable that way. It's better to overlay individual uncompressed frames from each video and flip between them. I've done comparisons like that before and the high bitrate versions have a lot of extra fine detail visible.

VRXVR One of my long-held gripes with SLR's video options is that the high bitrate Original/master version for SLRO scenes has too high of a bitrate to be practically useful to 99.9% of people. It's a huge waste of space. At the same time, the non-Original version is capped at 30mbps for streaming purposes and the bitrate and is often too low for quality 8K. There is no balanced option available for high quality 8K at a size that isn't ludicrous.

A lot of the big studios outside of SLR now have really good quality and are using better bitrates while SLR is stuck in the mud. For example, both Badoink and VirtualTaboo recently upped their bitrates across the sites they run to around 55-65mbps. Hopefully AV1 will help the situation here and SLR doesn't just use it as a way to reduce their bandwidth (with zero improvement to video quality).

Valid points, but I think it's all about balance. And even "balance" can be done in two ways in this situation:

1- Newer Situation: SLR provides higher bitrate for Streaming/ downloading to give better video quality and still keep or even remove the Original files completely for other Studios and provides lower bitrate for their own SLRO videos.

In this new situation:
A- Not all users have a fast internet connection to play high resolution videos with high bitrate or high resolution 10-bit depth videos for example. In addition to not have the capacity to download an amount of them.

B- Perverts like me want the highest bitrate possible for any Raw VR Camea file encoded video to be as close to Raw quality as possible. So we'll be turned off by this newer situation.

Verdict: Both users lose what they love about each file.

2- Current Situation: SLR still uses 30Mbps bitrate with their proved and unique Re-encoding algorithm which is really impressive in terms of quality per file size (at least for me) for Streaming/ downloading and still keep the Original files bitrate for other Studios intact and provides the same high bitrate and large video size for their own SLRO videos.

In this current situation:
A- most users will have a smooth 6K+ video streaming and reasonable video sizes to download even if their internet connection is not that good. In addition, this current situation will be a future proof for adding more and better video technologies like 10-bit color depth or streaming videos higher than 8K.

B- Perverts like me will keep happy about the high bitrate encoded Raw VR Camea file video so we can have it for our personal pleasure for years to come. In addition, say (Hopefully NOT) SLR somehow lost that Original video file for some reason, and they want it again or for remastering it for example. All of us Perverts will upload these Original files to them in a heartbeat (At least, I'll do this if I have them in my humble collection).

Verdict: Most users are happy about the current both choices. At least, that's what I think.

As for me, in terms of my PC Storage Capicity. I don't have any issues for two reasons:

1- I have 8TB Storage and it can be expanded of course, since it's a PC you know.

2- I'm very very selective about what I download (Only regular VR Videos with really beautiful girls without tattoos, fake boobs, tan lines...etc.... which are the drop in the SLR ocean unfortunately). So, yeah, I ONLY download the videos that I really like. As for the rest videos, say I think the scene is great even if I didn't like the performers, I just stream it without downloading it and that's it.

In the end, if I'm in charge, I humbly believe the current situation is a Win-Win for most of us. I believe SLR staff made a lot of research and trial and error to sit on this current situation to be good for present and ready for future.

Hairsational As you seem to be an expert on this, is the below statement even true? I remember that maybe about two years back a forum member claimed that the VBR/constant quality tale is BS and the transcoded files are in fact all CBR as well.

For each file at SexLikeReal we provide the original file (also called the “Master” file) which is obtained from the studio using constant bitrate, and a transcoded version with the same resolution, but with a constant quality variable bitrate.

SchnuppiLilac It's demonstrably false. If you take any one of those transcoded videos and plot a graph of the bitrate for each second of video, you will get a straight line, because the entire video has a constant bitrate.

Hairsational you don't need a constant bitrate for entire video. the algorithms are extremely good and SLR videos speak for itself.

the only missing thing is numbers for your perception. nothing else is going to change

I don't think you have anything to worry about tbh. As long as SLR continues to give absolute priority to streaming and continues to believe that 30mbps video looks identical to 100+mbps video, nothing will really change.

iddqd hey bro, can yall add a slider that will transparent the edges of the vr videos.

The falloff transparents the whole picture so it fades out colors.

What I wanna do is Transparent just the edges of the picture.

I was working out along with a vr video on jillvr, I tried using the falloff but it just makes everything transparent, I just want to fade out the edges when in pass-through

Kinda like avp, you don't really see the edges of the video, it's faded

So, a slider you slide to right it fades out the edges, the more you slide the more it fades out making fov smaller.

You know what I mean?

Vrsumo2017 yeah, I know what you mean, the idea is good. Not sure we will implement it any time soon, but it can be implemented in the new rebuilt app (Hyper) when it's ready

HS is still a vastly superior player and nobody cares for the continue push to stream instead of playing locally the highest quality content possible

Hairsational download all your favorite scenes while you can if you want the absolute best quality. Also they are encoding all content to the new format that will help reduce file size and supposedly not have an effect on quality, but unless they are having all the editors re-encode all the scenes from the source material then you can imagine its just going to be another render from a previous file, the more you render over previous renders the more you lose each time, regardless of how little impact anyone claims.
