[deleted] For that example I would clearly prefer the 14GB file. 27GB is an oversized original file, not optimized for end users and 9GB is optimized for streaming. 14GB looks like a good bitrate for download users, without checking the exact details.
Only for a few studios on SLR the original files are worth using, as they have a good bitrate intended for end users - for example SinsVR.
Some other corrections: You can stream full resolution on POVR through the prerfered Heresphere player and downloads with Internet Download Manager work totally fine and I can download 30 videos per day instead of 30 per 6 days. The first 15 full speed, the rest with bandwidth throtteling, but still fast enough to complete those 15 files within that day. If you keep downloading after 30 videos you get heavy throtteling.
And yes they have/had a bug with their encoding - but as you said, it's a bug and not the intended quality.
Your hacker story also only exisits in your fantasy. Maybe some script kiddies "hacked" a few accounts with weak passwords, but there is no big Turkish SLR hacking szene...
