Meta Quest Pro Color Passthrough with SLR

Just got my Meta Quest Pro today. As you can guess.. porn is the first thing to test out 😛
Especially the color passthrough feature that it brings.

I've got to say MQP gives the best color passthrough available out there on any given HMD at the moment. It is so accurate in the way that it connects the real world with VR world right off the bat. Feels correct with the size and ratios of the projected real world through the VR lens. I guess it's thanks to its stereo color passthrough and the maturity of this tech polished by META all this while...

Now to the porn part... yes I can confirm that SLR app works straight up. The passthrough feature works as it was for the Quest 2... but this time with full-on glorious color. Feels much better now and more realistic too. I used to rely on my Valve Index for color passthrough porn.. but I've got to say that from now MQP+SLR will be the go-to setup moving forward.

Vrsumo2017 I've had a quest pro for few days and after playing with adjustments for a while I've got it to a comfortable setting. Easy to over tighten. I did that at first and it was uncomfortable but now its OK. It looks like a lot of first time reviewers are doing the same thing.

blaze466 I wear glasses so I can't get it that close to my eyes. I will say it works well for people with glasses. A little tricky getting it on but plenty of room for the glasses. Finding a good comfort zone will probably be a little different for everyone base on head shape.

Hey guys, here's color passthrough from Quest Pro we tested. Looks great!
By the way - harcoded passthrough setting are on the way - now all you'll need to do is turn passthrough on and best settings will be set automatically!
Don't worry you will still have an option to watch without passthrough if its turned off.

For anyone sitting on the fence Quest pro has been discounted to $1100. I originally bought one for $1500 on Amazon with a 3 month return window. I returned it for a refund and bought one slightly used one on ebay for around $1000. I see new ones being sold on ebay now for $1000. I use to have a quest 2 and after using the pro for while found going back the quest 2 hard to do. Going from quest 2 to pro was similar to going from oculus go to quest 2 in terms of over all improved quality. Sold the quest 2 for a little under $300 on ebay.

nfrosty53 damnt man! My shits all over the place, I was set on a pico 4, now I think I decided to wait for q3, but for 1100 I'd get that pro. One thing that gets me to wait for q3 is its still going to have a strap, and I've always been strapped, sum say the battery in the back not a big deal but I can't imagine laying trying to fap with the battery in back of my head, plus I just have certain ways of laying, like I'll have my forearm behind my head, or my head resting on my wall while watching vr. So Idk 🤷‍♂️ 😐

But I heard they only lowering price for 2 weeks

I had the MQP for just under 2 months and returned to Best Buy. It was definitely a step up in quality over the Quest 2, but not worth the price for my personal usage (almost only porn). I will say though that the passthrough was pretty promising - I'm sold on passthrough as a concept although it has a long way to go.

Meta Quest 3, though not confirmed in title, is confirmed in concept for release this year by Zuckerberg, and it will carry over MQP's passthrough and likely have higher resolution (MQP resolution kinda sucks for the price, although the lenses do improve the overall experience).

My main point: Once the Quest 3 releases, we're going to have 10x more people with an incentive to try/use color passthrough.

fathergll Yes, the overall quality is a step up, and it enhances the experience. $1,500 worth of enhancement? No, not in my opinion. The most notable thing for me was the pancake lenses improvement over fresnel. I never want to go back to fresnel. It's basically 100% clear from edge to edge (a near 100% sweet spot). The issue though is you can still see the screen door effect as the per eye resolution is ALMOST EXACTLY the same as the Quest 2. So you have super clear lenses, but mediocre panels to take advantage of said lenses. The colors were also significantly better than Quest 2, but nowhere near OLED good.

We're looking at 30% likely resolution increase for Quest 3 with the same pancake lenses, so that's something to look forward to. Even more, we can look forward to Quest Pro 2 in 2024 which is rumored to have around 3500x3500 micro OLED panels to compete with Apple's late 2023/early 2024 device.

Ventriloquist_Tacos I picked up a Quest Pro on sale for $1000. At first I was very disappointed but am liking it more after a few days now that I did more IPD and headset adjustments. Still debating if I am keeping it.

You're description is accurate. Better colors, sharper but the screendoor effect is there.

I do agree with @rerun119 that FOV needs to be much bigger for headsets in order to take that next leap into immersion. If we could get OLED with no screendoor and huge FOV it's going to be game changer.

@fathergll @Ventriloquist_Tacos All these new headsets need a bigger FOV to make a really big difference. I have a Pimax 8K that will blow away a Q2 or Pro whatever for 1500$. That is what you should be looking for in a headset.

rerun119 I personally don't care about FOV as long as it's Quest 2 level or better. Just clarity. A lot of people are like this, hence the FOV not being improved on most of the new headsets, in favor of higher pixel density. Take a look, for example at Pimax Crystal or the Bigscreen Beyond which just got announced today. Even Pimax realized they had to stop doing only huge FOV headsets in favor of PQ, even if they remain known overall for having higher FOV.

Agreed about FOV. Most porn studios aren't even making videos that go much past 200 degrees, so you don't get the benefit.

Hurto11 Sorry but I have to disagree completely with this. When you watch porn with a Q2 or any other headset for that matter. It looks like you are looking through a toilet paper roll. You don't see the whole 200 Degrees that is filmed. You see black all around your eyesight. With a Pimax you see almost the whole thing and if you look the where the picture stops you see black just like you do all the time with a Q2.

Have you ever put on a Pimax? I don't think so because you would understand if you did.
I have both and I can tell you that it looks just as good as a Q2 but twice as much of a view. You can never go back.
It looks like real life everywhere you can see.

PS. companies don't make a bigger FOV because of cost of lenses and the helmet is too big for mass sales.
