Quest Pro passthrough is a let down?
Mrtv say he could see sum screen door effect, also the passthrough color is no better then the pico 4, also lots of light underneath the headset with the side guards on.
Yeah man at 1500$ I'm betting it won't sell much.
Also I heard meta quest been doing bad business wise.
Idk, but pico 4 seems to be my next choice if and when if ever do buy a new headset.

Apparently the glare on the pancake lenses is coming from light leaking in from the sides of the padding. Better fit/ padding eliminates the glare, and the glare is already far less than the Fresnel lenses on the Quest. No Godrays, double vision like astigmatism etc.
So far the padding is the biggest gripe I've seen with the Pico 4. It doesn't seem to fit everyone's face, and is kinda hard for some people. Mind you, most of these reviewers aren't using the stock oculus/meta padding and have upgraded their units to 3rd party manufacturers and are probably used to the fancy upgraded padding.
The bottom line in A LOT of reviews is, if you already have a Quest 2, no need to get Pico 4. If you don't have a Quest 2 or are just entering into the VR landscape, Pico 4 is a great investment.
For Porn-centric review. Have to wait for the DeoVR app to launch. The dev team has either just got their unit now, or are still waiting for one. DeoVR started working on the app for Pico 3 in Jan and it officially released July (from what I can glean from the deovr forum https://forum.deovr.com/?q=pico) That was their first foray with Pico, so it shouldn't take long to set up the new unit.
This is where I'm on the fence. I have an old Oculus GO. It's fine for movies, but I rarely use it. I had the Oculus Quest and found the screendoor was much more apparent on the $600 unit than the $200 GO. So I sold the Quest. Weaned off FB/Meta, don't really care for jumping back in to their ecosystem.
All those things considered, Pico 4 seems like a great option. (yes, I know they're owned by tiktok's parents and that's a bit scary, but, so far you can sign up with any email address and don't need a social media account)
Pico 4 has a lot of potential, and the OS seems to be getting a lot of updates (initial reviews had glitches, but that seems to have been fixed.) Still in the cart, haven't pulled the trigger yet.

im surprised anyone with an existing headset is even considering a pico 4 when its an incremental improvement on the quest 2 at best. quest 3 is less than 12 months away and it will blow everything else out of the water like the quest 2 did. it will have av1 decoding

Quest 3 looks interesting, and will for sure blow the pico4 out of the water.
In less than 12 months there may be be a Pico 5, Sony, Apple VR etc etc etc.
As for what's available right now, and in the same price range, Quest 2 and Pico 4 are about the same. Coke vs Pepsi, Apple vs Samsung. Same argument.
One major drawback to the Pico 4 is market availability, no current North American release (if ever) and not being able to play some Meta owned games.
Quest 2 is also ready to go on SLR.

Youtube 3D seems to work fine on Oculus, I'm wondering how It does on the Pico 4. (I don't have a unit, but am currently leaning that way)
Idk, maybe try some of the browser based vr pron on spankbang or something. (although really low quality, could use for testing browser based.)
I'm not sure if browser based wiill give full immersion or just a screen out in the distance.
Or maybe better to try the Whirligig Media Player on the pico 4. See if that works with some downloaded VR porn

I downloaded virtual desktop
Downloaded Deovr On my pc and streamed it through virtual desktop to my pico 4.
There is a libary and if you download it and play it, it plays through some basic player but it sucks.
it gets the idea, quality and extra fov is nice but its a bit buggy for me.
Also passthrough doesnt work through deovr pc variant.
Matter of time before Deovr releases the pico 4 support.

So fired up my old oculus. First thing it says " In order to continue using your device after Jan 1 2023, you MUST set up a Meta and Horizon account"
So it seems you DO need a fb/meta horizon account for Oculus/Meta devices going forward. All new Quest devices are required to set up meta account.

You dont need a facebook account, and you can setup horizon login not associated to any of your socials. You need a horizon account for new store purchases, and to still have acces to your old purchases.
Thats on quest 2, dont know how it works on the older headset

Thanks, it's all very confusing. Oculus saying one thing, Meta saying something else the next day.
Still, the GO has got to go. I'll hang on to it to compare for now.
Speaking of which, @sletje I did try the spnkbng vr via the browser on the GO. It asks for permission to watch in VR or just in the browser. It works. Well sort of. View angle is limited to standing straight up. You can adjust your rotation in the room, but not the pitch. Not to mention that the videos are compressed to all hell and the stream is choppy. Maybe try if that works for you, maybe a 4k video. It could just be the performance on the GO. It's not fun and the captain sparrow vids are terrible, but might be a preview till the DeoVR is ready (hopefully within a few weeks) Hoping if I order now, the app will be ready by arrival.

VR Porn wise, and this applies to everyone here:
If you're super horny for VR Porn:
Stick with the Quest 2.
If you can afford it, Get the G2.
If you have money lying around and like easy listening, PiMax. (Do not get if you listen to metal. Neck will be too weak for this beast)
If you can wait, I'd wait for DeoVR's app to be released before ordering.
I've been going through the forum and discord. So far, they don't have a unit to test on.
They DID have a release for the Pico 3. One user asked in like April, and they only now got a reply.
The Pico 3 DeoVR app was released in June -ish. Depending on where you are, it's in the store, or not.
So ... uhm ... guh?
The good news is, there is someone handling the discord and forum now. We're all waiting.
Could be 2 weeks, could be 2 months.
Oh, and if you're in North America. Probably better to wait or go with Quest 2. There may be no North American release. But, side-loading might work.
I'm looking for other ways to play 3D videos on the unit. Perhaps put them in the movies folder and play with the native app.
If I do happen to get one to try, I'll give a full break down, with Handy integration, skin tones washed out or not, etc etc. We're such a niche audience.
Another thing to consider, apparently when the processor gets hot, fan kicks in and blows on your face? This could dry out contact lenses. A lot of testers haven't received their units yet, so this could just be hearsay.

It seems that Pico got overwhelmed by demand. Amazon Europe having stock issues, Asian Market opening up, and rumours that a truck lost it's load. (or maybe this is the new tech normal like nvidia launches, high demand, not enough product to go around)

There is no contest...
Pico wins for porn by a big margin. Currently streamed over virtual desktop i can only imagine native support without additional compression.
The vertical fov is what makes it soooo much more immersive.
The absoloutely big sweet spot and no cable.
Comfort has to be modded and only there g2 is better.
Besides Porn streaming roomscale games is also more fun than g2 simply because there is no cable.

Have you tried putting the files directly into the movies folder? Probably no compression if on the unit.
How are you viewing the vids? Native viewer? DeoVR app is currently not ready.
I agree, the G2 fit is really top notch right out of the box. As well as not having to put cable retainers all over the ceiling.
Availability and North American support are the big downsides right now. What if you're in the Yukon or Atlanta and get a bad unit. That's $180 gone in just shipping ($60 shipping unit, then back, and then the replacement)

Currently i am using virtual desktop to stream deo vr through steam.
But Deo VR is working on a pico version so it will come eventualy and than its jackpot time.
And a quest 3 wont arrive until fall 2023.
I live in europe and this war is increasing prices of everything. Inflation us kicking off.
I am already frightened of the energy bill at the end of the year.
So before shit hits the fan i pulled the trigger on the pico.
Now back to saving up for the energy bill...
I tested the Pico 4 against the Quest 2. So that I have the best resolution, I downloaded a file. Dream Team of course. The Pico VR allows you to disable the Guardian function in the Lab / Developer setting. This allows you to reset the image in any position, even lying down. Further, you can adjust the image brightness, saturation and contrast. The better resolution is not a wow effect now. The larger focus is great. The processor runs 15% faster, although it's the same. The top search is Deovr in the pico store.

I totally agree. I've got friends in Europe in the same stressful situation. It's almost like, end the war or blow up the world and end the misery. Very stressful. VR might be a good escape.
Where did you order your unit from. Seems like XRshop and Amazon are taking ages to ship.

So on 18th I ordered one from Saturn.
Received ot on 19th.
Currently they list 04.11 - 05.11 for 128gb model.

Preordered my Pico 4 from Amazon UK and received it in the US yesterday. To finish the setup I sideloaded the Pico Assistant onto a separate Android device and successfully entered PayPal in the app for in-headset purchases in the Pico store. My old headset is an Oculus Go, so I can't compare it to the Quest 2. To have maximum field of vision I left the spacer out of the Pico 4, which seems fine.
One advantage to the Pico 4 is the ability to play videos from the USB port, giving viewers an alternative to transferring videos onto the headset or streaming. I use a micro SD card with previously-saved videos, placed in a card reader, attached to USB-C dongle. The dongle-dangle only weighs about 20g. So far I've had no problem viewing any of the previously-saved videos I've tried. The card should be first formatted by the headset (which places the Android folders on the card), and then the videos you wish to view should be placed in the Movies folder. If you don't, the headset won't realize they are VR180 side-by-side, and you will need to set the video orientation manually each time. This is what my dongle-dangle looks like.
