Hey anyone update from a q2 to a pico 4 and used pass-through on both have a review if the color pass-through is way Hella funner then on the q2, I'd like to hear

Cuz im thinking ima go on ahead and make the leap, I'm thinking qp way to much. The new q3 might be like 500$ or more and right now the pico 4 like 380$ can't beat that price right now.

I'm thinking about it. But manly cuz it has color pass-through 🤔

    The Quest 2 pass-through is black and white and 2D. The Pico 4 passthrough is in colour and 3D. The resolution of the Pico 4's passthrough is good, you can read displays. I use it in VR games to make settings on the computer. Now I don't have to take the glasses off. The 3D passthrough seems to be software generated. The proportions are not quite right. But it has been significantly improved with the last update. The resolution of the Pico 4's passthrough is higher than that of the Quest Pro, but the 3D view is supposed to be better on the Quest Pro.

            I've seen sum pass-through on YouTube, looks good but I'm curious about the pass-through used with vrp.

                Vrsumo2017 As much as you talk about passthrough on all the sites we all know you are going to get the pico 4.

                    Just checked the PICO 4 and it's quite good. For now you can sideload DeoVR using sidequest and its working fine. Passthrough is a bit different maybe in a better way since its monoscopic
                    The colorful see through is vivid and as sharp as on Quest Pro and MAYBE even a little better or at least as good as.
                    Note that this is my personal experience and yours might be completely different.

                    I have a Pimax 8kx, Pico 4 and Valve Index. Pico 4 is pretty nice: lightweight, nice passthrough, no hassle (wireless, no pc) and Deovr's streaming is way faster at seeking than on pc for some reason. Still even though the pico should have the same amount of pixels vertically it looks noticeably lower res to me than on the Pimax 8kx (I wonder if DeoVr is using the native resolution of the pico 4?).
                    As far as the FOV goes it kinda sucks. It's a really big downgrade in terms of experience compared to the 8kx and even a noticeable downgrade from the index (I guess a custom face gasket could help a little since really pushing the headset to your face makes the FOV a little better).
                    Still, I think the Pimax 8kx remains the best headset for porn by quite a big margin at this moment (even with the Pimax experience...). Just wish it was Valve or something that made these high res headsets and that there was a good passthrough. Maybe, the Deckard...

                      Passthrough hack with Pico 4.
                      I just tried to remove the faceplate to see if I can get a better FOV and although it does slightly, the biggest win was the immersion. Having no top, side or bottom makes it feel like you are just wearing a pair of big heavy sunglasses. But the experience is even more amazing when watching a video in Passthrough mode. It feels even more like the subject is in your room. Now it’s a matter of removing everything as far as background etc in a clean way to not distract from the immersion. I mentioned this in separate thread but I really think SLR should separate videos exclusively to play in Passthrough.

                      I read something that the Pico 4's chip, Qualcomm Snapdradon XR2, can't play 8K natively. Therefore, the image is probably scaled up. But also good, the resolution is higher and pixels are not visible.
                      Passthrough looks good on the Pico 4. I'd love to upload a video, but then I'd have to clean my place first.

                          fenderwq I also have a Pimax 8K X. Everybody talks about the best headset but if they don't say that the 8KX then it's cause they have never tried one. It is light years ahead of the Q2.

                              rerun119 Have been waiting for that one for a long time and it should have actually been released by now. The trade in deal is pretty sweet so was looking forward to the upgrade.
                              Still it seems they have gotten distracted by the crystal and than the frontier. As the crystal is set to launch somewhere in March now and the 12k will likely launch months after that as it's "70% done" according to Pimax.
                              Well have to see what happens in the meantime. Would be great to get the visual bump due to better lenses and higher resolution. Maybe they even have a half decent MR faceplate by then.
                              I wonder how much sharper of an image we can get from the 8kx to the 12k for video (the maximum decodable resolution being 8192x8192 for even the rtx 4090) but I'm hopeful.
                              So yeah, I'll likely upgrade.

                                  fenderwq I had read somewhere that Pimax was going to make the 12K work on their own site instead of steam. That scares me if that is true. The up side to the 12K is that it is going to have passthrough.

                                      i download some 8k clips and noticed that in deovr it looks some better than the picos player...
                                      and the passthrough clips even better...

                                      im wondering if it is possible just to change and replace the 16megapixel camera with some higher megapixel and get so higher resolution ? would passthrough quality get even better ? would that work ?

                                      the picos passthrough is not bad but there much space to improve when it comes to resolution and quality and light...i believe the 16megapixel just not enough for that...

                                          mnmlikereal The difference is the UK Value Added Tax, (V.A.T.) which you don't pay because you are in Canada. You will in all likelihood pay import/sales tax of some description at the other end.

                                            idk rly how to explain that but compared to normal vr 4k or 8k clips the passthrough clips and the girls in the passthrough mode just looks better...more detail...which results in more immersiveness and if use the hack by @alina with removed faceplate it even more better... ^^

                                            if just the rbg camera would be same good quality like the girls then this would be just more amazing and mind blowing...
