doublevr It got released in the meanwhile on Side Quest. Everything works very well and the passthrough mode for videos is really impressive. I did not think it would work that well. Looking forward to see more improvements for that feature.

I did notice though, that 8k videos are really laggy on the Pico 4 and therefore unwatchable. Maximum quality I can set videos is 2880p. Everything above is way too laggy. I don't know if there is a fix for it, or if it's because that's the maximum a standalone device is capable off.

Anyway, really happy to have SLR available on the Pico 4 now.

Danny88 You are probably using the h264 codec. Change to h265 and all videos will go without any problems 🙂 I don't know why h264 is set by default. Not everyone needs to know...

Lonkilan It's a browser thing. It will get fixed at some point.

2880p Is still well above the official AVC spec. and even runs fine because of the Qualcomm XR2 chip. - In comparison, an RTX 4090 can't decode this.

But correct, use HEVC/H.265 instead, in particularly for anything over 2160p.
For VR on PC, I'd even say anything over 1920p

But when deovr will be released on Pico 4 store without Sidequest?I use Pico 4 without PC....

Not yet instead. It's possibile download DeoVr only with Pico 3 headset, not with Pico 4

Anyone know if the Pico 4 app has the "remote control" functionality?

          • Yar replied to this.

Lonkilan Thank you! That was indeed the problem. Completely forgot to change the codec. I somehow thought it was default on h265.
Works flawlessly now. The picture on the Pico 4 is very good. Before I used a Reverb G2. Picture was also very good, but the higher sweetspot and the slightly better FOV makes a huge difference. Feels way more immersive. Plus wireless is a game changer.

Yar Ahh great, only have PC VR so I was unsure if it was available at all on quest/Pico4 thanks.

Daveza Hey hey! You can write a question to pico support. From our side App has been uploaded to store and reviewed and has status available. Perhaps you need to specify something in your profile. Pico has different stores for China and Rest of regions

Danny88 I was in the same boat. The pico 4 in my opinion is currently the best standalone headset out this is affordable if you are SLR fan. I highly recommend to get it. Also I just experienced the pass through feature on SLR for the first time with this headset and that in itself is a freaking game changer. Although it’s in it’s early stages, when you get a video to work well, wow!

alina I use only a smartphone headset but really want to try the Build-Your-Own-Journey video feature which is only available in the headset app rigth now. That's why I'm considering buying a Pico 4, but the problem is that Meta Quest 3 is on the horizon...

I got it running on the Pico 4 through SideQuest and the color passthrough feature itself works great, but haven't quite figured out the trick to getting a good key with the new passthrough algorithm yet.

EDIT: Just saw the other thread and realized I'm late to the algorithm discussion. Anyway, the Pico app works great despite the challenges I'm having with the new passthrough algorithm, and when I can get a good passthrough, the color makes it awesome. The Pico headset is much more comfortable than the Quest 2 IMO also.

Hey, I’m pretty new to this and been struggeling hard to get the slr app onto my Pico 4.
could you possibly explain to me, how I set this up? You said sidequest. How does that work?

                      doublevr
Takes me to the site but nowhere do I see the process of how I get the slr app to work on my pico 4. excuse me but I have zero idea of what I have to do 😃

Assuming you have a desktop/laptop, what I did was go to https://sidequestvr.com/setup-howto, on the right-hand under ‘Advanced Installer Tutorial’ play the video and follow instructions as if it’s an Oculus Quest. The developer mode is different, but the quick video here shows how to enable it: https://www.youtube.com/shorts/g-Ce-jlRAq8
The app works, but anything over 2800 won’t play smoothly, hope the Pico 4 store release solves this.
