I don't get why it's a problem. If so few people use it, why not have the option? Does it eat up so much bandwidth? There are download limits already working. If it's about piracy, with any kind of DRM people always find their way around, and in the end only paying customers get hurt. Japanese FANZA has some atrocious DRM that makes it very inconvenient to watch any purchased content, but it doesn't stop piracy at all
Only 8% of users re-watch at least 60 sec of the same videos in 2 month

I only download, and I watch most of this content several times. My favorites movies, more than a dozen times.
I will never pay for streaming only porn. I can survive with my downloaded porn the rest of my life.
doublevr it actually does stop at all
The FANZA releases are at dozens of chinese P2P sites the same day.

doublevr For me it is a meaningless debate. I like to watch VR porn, movies or series, with the highest picture quality.
But companies impose streaming crap on us, Netflix looks crappy compared to a Blu-ray 4K, and porn looks crappy on streaming, compared to the downloaded version. Even more so VR, where realism is the most important thing. If the image looks blurry and sometimes there is stuttering, it breaks the immersion. Not to mention the energy and Internet costs of constantly streaming. And the cut in rights it means for the paying consumer.
Mandatory streaming is the greatest technological absurdity of our time. As an option it's fine for lazy people who don't mind watching movies and porn with mediocre quality. Wanting to impose it seems very irritating to me.
The same as VR with smartphone quality that Facebook wants to impose on us now with its Quest, and the 10-year setback in the graphic quality and depth of games..
Streaming is only an advantage for the companies and for the lazy or casual, and a defeat for those of us who want the highest image quality with no strings attached.

I don't know if your real problem is downloads, or that there is no DRM.
I think most people who pay for downloads, never pirate them or share them with anyone. I don't. And there are many of us who want to pay for content even if it's available for free pirated, one click away. Because it's fair to pay for the work of others. But in return, we want to be able to download that content so we can use it with our players, our settings, and in our own way. Without that freedom that streaming and DRM steal us, many of us would stop subscribing. Me the first.

Why do you keep fighting this battle? Even though I rarely download SLR content, and SLR is by far my favorite website, your agenda on this is kind of tiresome.
Also, when I signed up for lifetime, it was with the understanding that I could download the content I wanted within the limitations that were in place at the time. I'm sure other users thought the same. Now there are stricter limits. I don't blame people for being upset. It really doesn't impact me, but it seems like you're rubbing your users' faces in the changes you've made to limit downloads.
You can tell that you're approaching it wrong when you're starting to get on the nerves of people like me, who don't really care that much about the issue.
One advantage to downloading is that it seems like the higher quality videos play better when they are on my local drive. But maybe that is just my perception.
BTW, I do download a lot of content from other websites, because I like to use the SLR app to play them.
Hunky-Dory VR porn isn't exclusive to SLR and there are so many VR pornsites to jump ship to. So many VR pornsites that would never take off downloading.

Natch And there are many of us who want to pay for content even if it's available for free pirated, one click away. Because it's fair to pay for the work of others.
Same here. If I can pay for something or get a pirated copy, I always opt for paying, because I want creative people to be able to continue to create and earn a fair living. I think most people who can afford it feel the same way.
That said, I'm not sure what I would do if I was truly not able to afford content I wanted.
I was mainly a streamer before, the more slr argue and reduce DL limits the more I download in preparation for the next throttling, and my inevitable cancellation.

doublevr you and your team get mad when we talk about this, why make a blog to go "neener neener " like a child? it's weird and counter productive.
Honestly there is so much new content being released every day, I am not surprised that people lack the... er.. energy to dip back into the back catalog -
But... if I thought I was going to lose any SLR favorites (for example when you wiped out tons of "drinking" and "sleeping" videos _- I would go on a crazy downloading spree

Latency does not matter at all with streaming.
If you have 100ms latency, and another user 50ms it just means your video start 50ms later after pressing the play button.

doublevr That's it folks.
No need to download the shit out of SLR.
You don't know how much I watch each of my downloaded scenes.
I can tell you one thing: I've never streamed even a single minute of porn on SLR. No even a second. Nothing. Nada.
Your statistics are bull and so is your agenda.
LordCrash I can tell you one thing: I've never streamed even a single minute of porn on SLR. No even a second. Nothing. Nada.
This exactly, same for me.
I don't think I've even ever signed into SLR from either the SLR or DeoVR apps. I did test streaming the trailers or whatever plays as a guest a couple times but that's all. It was enough to show me local files are far superior and if you have the HDD space for that it's just the way to go.

Aerowen I have not been using DeoVR for months now since I replaced it with Heresphere which is better in any imaginable way.
I will never understand why people expect me to stream visually downgraded content via a possibly unstable internet connection on a mediocre VR player when I can watch the same content in the best possible quality with 100% availability on the best VR player out there. It's the better experience in any possibly way. Period.
It sadly seems that the real VR enthusiasts have no future on SLR and nobody gives an actual fuck about them, even though they are the most loyal customers who are ready (and able) to pay good money for the content they consume. The only interest is to attract the usual Brazzers customers who watch SD porn on their phone right now. Quantity is all that counts and so there is this all-streaming agenda that obviously has to be pushed by all means necessary...

LordCrash I should really use Heresphere more too as I do have it and it is indeed a lot better. I've just been lazily using the oculus thing and haven't really set it up to start stuff from steam.
For me the reason is not a slow internet connection btw, I have 500mbit and probably next year gigabit connection and I really doubt I will ever switch to streaming VR porn. It's indeed visually a downgrade, comparable to watching a movie on Bluray vs Netflix quality, not to mention annoying stutters and pauses when you skip ahead.
According to their own graphics and "stats" the people who download are by far the minority, so why are we getting more and more limitations? It's absurd, if we are such a minority it shouldn't be an issue at all, just let us have our downloads without obnoxious counters and other annoyances. The only reason to keep pushing against this is SLR/doublevr having a hard-on for streaming-only or that's just their end-goal. Well fuck around and find out I say. It's not going to fly for a lot of people.
It's like Gabe Newell said years ago "Piracy is a service issue", actually here's the full quote:
"If a pirate offers a product anywhere in the world, 24 x 7, purchasable from the convenience of your personal computer, and the legal provider says the product is region-locked, will come to your country 3 months after the US release, and can only be purchased at a brick and mortar store, then the pirate's service is more valuable."
Although I'm not convinced the download limitations are caused by piracy at all (because 1; it takes a certain level of tech knowledge+access and 2; the people who pirate porn would very likely never pay for porn anyway). But similarly to games, paid-for-porn and especially VR porn is definitely a service issue. If it is more convenient to watch or download from SLR people will use it, but when we get annoying limitations that just keep getting worse and worse at some point people will jump ship.
Personally I'm already at that point of looking into other solutions simply because of doublevr's nonsense stats and endless fight against the apparently minor group of members who download. Not to mention the lies about not adding more limitations and yet here we are, and now he posted it won't go streaming-only but history has shown that's probably what's going to happen.
And I might not always hit the 30 downloads limit but when I do and there's another scene I want to get I'm now essentially forced to put on my pirate hat even though I'm paying for VR porn. I'm not going to wait six fucking days when I can download it right away (at much higher speeds than SLR servers by the way). So yeah, it's a convenience and service issue and SLR is heading in the wrong direction.
