Niteflyte Heresphere supports SMB so no need to copy videos to your headset. Or even better combine Heresphere with XBVR and you don't even need SMB shares and get your private and ad-free porn website with all the content you want in one place.

Piracy is something that has existed since the dawn of the internet. It will never go away. It is absolutely pointless to fight against the current and spend your precious energy on blocking this. This will result not only in a huge backlash as you're excluding people with slow internet that do not have the luxury to stream an 8K video to their headset directly.
    https://www.visualcapitalist.com/mapped-the-fastest-and-slowest-internet-speeds-in-the-world/

Also definitely be prepared to invest A LOT in cybersecurity because I'm pretty sure you will open yourself up as a target to get hacked and potentially leak all your videos one day if you decide to go streaming-only.

I'd say focus and spend all your time on improving the SLR app / service to retain more users on the platform. This is where your profit margins come in

Profit does not come from tighening downloads and fighting piracy. This is anti-consumer and it will set you back by a couple years if you decide to go streaming-only.

    My 2 cents from a streamer-only guy

Niteflyte It's like you've got a 5 star steakhouse and are going table to table telling your clientele that you're think of going the happy meal route.

Exactly this. When I joined, this was a more artisan and curated site. I subbed for the quality releases and ease of use. Since I have been here, the quality has been reduced and they seem to deliberately try to make the site harder to use for their most enthusiastic customers.

No matter what the industry, there is always one player that fucks it up by trying to become the only provider, and then reducing quality to shit once they are dominating. This is the route SLR, like many before them, is taking. Welcome to the Walmart of porn.

On that subject, this thread did make me think about how I use the site, and what my usage statistics must look like to SLR. I do look at nearly every video that is released on the site. Most of the time, that looking takes the form of quickly skimming over the video to look at camerawork, positions, transitions, etc. I'm pretty picky, too - I don't want shaky-cam, I don't want handsy stunt-cocks, I don't want that Pervert guy panting and grunting, I don't want fatass TadPole, I don't want girls doing shit 5 feet from the camera, I don't want them to shout and babble nonsense the entire video, etc. Unsurprisingly, few videos make the "return to this" cut after a short preview. The ones that are really great, I bookmark and then try out with a Handy and a script. Did I mention that I won't watch it without a script? If I enjoy the experience, then I will download that video to make sure that I have it when SLR decides to drop it, or the studio decides to pull it, or the credit card companies complain, or whatever.

The point of all this is that from an uninformed and biased viewpoint about how users use the site, it looks like I only rewatch like 3% of videos, and not for that long. What you are missing is that this is not because I enjoy streaming instead of downloads, or because people don't re-watch videos - it is because the overwhelming majority of videos that SLR offers are, in my opinion, a steaming pile of crap. Perhaps if you would focus on quality over quantity, user patterns would look different. Additionally, you should ASK your users what they are doing and why, instead of cherry picking datapoints to support what you want to do anyway.

It feels like these forums are sold with the idea that you want to learn from your customers and improve, but what you actually do is encourage us to give you information just so you can mock us and tell us we are wrong.

Will65 I hope your post gets read, and re-read, and re-read again. A customer-oriented business would be wise to digest this feedback, the warnings just below the surface, and learn from it - really learn from it.

Will65 I don't want that Pervert guy panting and grunting, I don't want fatass TadPole

And can I just amplify and echo 1000x this? 👆🏻 I still need to figure out how to do studio-blocking in the app since I read somewhere it’s now there, but I’ve yet to unearth this.

argyle43 AFAIK you have to block the studio on the website and it carries over to the app.

someoneX This made me wonder if SLR streaming could be done from within Heresphere, surely that should be possible and a great thing to have right? It has a browser, can't you just log into the SLR site? I might even try streaming that way... So I googled it and top result was this post below... apparently it was possible, until SLR made sure it was no longer possible. 😞 for fucks sake...

        From this post: https://www.reddit.com/r/oculusnsfw/comments/vrjk9a/slr_has_removed_their_public_api_to_prevent/

...it's actually funny how similar the comments are here.

Aerowen did you notice that happened at the same time slr started using mx file types, with a note on the download that they will only play in slr or deo players. Which is a lie as we all know, they play way better in heresphere.
Slr pulled out of heresphere because the dev wouldn't tell them the tricks he was using to get such good image quality. Basically they wanted to copy his homework and got told to do 1. So they pulled out of heresphere completely. Typical slr behaviour.

dojimmy You mean the MX200 files? Pretty sure that's been a thing for a lot longer than a few months to be fair, it's just the 200 degree FOV or lens type w/e, there's VRCA220 too. I've seen that note of those files playing better in SLR/DeoVR for a lot longer than a few months. For a while it was true only SLR supported that lens/FOV format because they started using it for SLRoriginals I think but Heresphere added support to all sorts of lenses and FOVs.

As for the other things... I've just read some more about it, does look like the usual shenanigans and it's getting tiresome. =/

              justsomedude101 Nope
              but actually yes !

I tried downloading a video again today and was once again limited to 6mb/s, then i thought i'd try a VPN and as if by magic i could actually download at speeds lot closer to what my connection is capable of at 85mb/s !

turned off a VPN again and my download speeds were once again down to 6mb/s !

so i guess someone at SLR decided to limit download speeds on my current IP address, amazing.

              you guys are really special

SuckNickname You may want to look into whether your ISP is throttling you, especially if the VPN does the trick to bypass the throttling issue. My spidey senses are telling me that your mind is already made up that it's us throttling you, but worth looking into the above. Could also be that the specific server you're being routed to is under heavy load, and with VPN you're able to bypass that. Lot of options.

Aerowen They probably want to push their own product DeoVR. Bad move, since Heresphere is better in any imaginable way right now and SLR should do everything they can to provide the best possible experience for their customers. Give them choice instead of pushing a certain (inferior) player on them...

Aerowen Yes, for some reason SLR always tries to protect themselves from some invisible enemy and keep everything in their walled garden, even if the experience for some customers gets worse, while other sites like WankzVR/POVR, CzechVR and NA even invested time to support the Heresphere API, to improve the experience for their customers.

Granted, these sites have less to lose and needed a reasonable player anyway, but SLR somehow only sees the danger and downsides and takes everything as a threat, while ignoring advantages and improved experience for some users.

Every time I use streaming to check some new studios I miss the features of Heresphere.

                  Aerowen

I only noticed the mx200s and the must use deo/SLR note after the fallout, my mistake.

                  Will65

the problem is they will shave out the best parts and THINK they are putting the best parts out there in these little videos

i got one clip i have watched almost a hundred times...they would have ZERO idea WHY i watch it

pretty sure a few people have these GO-TO-type clips....sometimes they are very very subtle and under-the-radar type things.

spanker Every scene and model is different. I can't just pick some favorite tags and ignore everything else. That would make VR porn even more stale than it is already. I want to be surprised and discover fresh unexpected ideas from the producers, not just watch 20 cowgirl or missionary scenes in a row.

                      doublevr
What is wrong with you? Finding any sort of justification for minimizing downloads. SLR offered x amount of downloads per x amount of hours for x amount of dollars. Whatever irrelevant statistics you want to pull up doesn't change the agreement. If everyone wants to download 0 of their 30 per 72 hours or every single user wants to download all 30 of their 30 downloads every 72 hours, that's up to them, because that's what the agreement was when they paid (and some paid for 50, etc and should get it as early investors).

"No need to download the shit out of SLR."
Then why the hell did you advertise and sell downloads if you're trying everything possible to stop people from downloading? 30 per 72 or offer 50% refunds instead of wasting everyone's time with irrelevant statistics that have no bearing on what people paid for. Why don't they cut your salary from the books if they're having trouble providing downloads to the people that paid for them? You spouting nonsense on these forums is draining funds (assuming you're paid to do this) that SLR could put toward fulfilling their obligations as far as downloads, if that's actually a problem.

And didn't you say if the topic kept getting reopened, then you would need to start banning people? It seems like you're the one due for a ban, since you reopened the topic yourself. Hypocrite and abuse of power. Threatening paying customers with bans if we object to being ripped off and lied to, but you can post whatever you want that doesn't change the fact that we paid for 30 full quality downloads per 72 hours.

justsomedude101 This happens so much from my experience. Sometimes ISPs will throttle sites like SLR, BUT sometimes users will then test on a VPN, but use some free/low cost provider and pick a random overloaded server that can't deliver the speeds (not to mention potentially picking a server far away from them).

justsomedude101 I don’t envy you trying to explain performance issues to the masses. There are so many things that can go wrong between site servers and user’s device which can (and usually do) impact performance.

                        someoneX

don't think i was SAYING anything close to that

i was saying having people CUT clips into parts that they THINK are good? is a bad thing.

MAYBE if they get some of those NEW photonic-chips china is producing and run some AI on the project??? they have a chance
