SLR App can't run a video

Tried to fire up a local .mp4 video I downloaded off this site. Instead of playing the video, the SLR app goes and tries to install 'Pinnacle My DVD' app. Of course it doesn't work because it doesn't exist.
It's an old program I used to have. The only file association I see for 'My DVD' is a completely different file type and I can't remove it.

.mp4 files are set to run with Fastone Image Viewer, that itself uses Windows Media Player. Can't change it, except to go through the Microsoft Windows Store. Not that I want to change it, or should need to.
Well at least I got SLR to actually run. Now it needs to figure out what a video is. Baby steps right?

Also the menus lag when I move my head around, so sometimes they follow where my head turns and then suddenly stays at that spot and sometimes it works fine (My head movement doesn't make the menus move too). It happens in Steam VR home and the SLR app.

Can I not insert images here?
Do you guys not take in enough money to be able to handle windows 95 computer basics? Running an app, running a video, posting pictures on a forum. ... really SLR?

Johnny166 If you haven't already, please submit this form so we can get you connected directly with support. We might need to get into specifics that frankly will just be easier through the support ticket system vs the forum.

TBH I have never heard or seen anything even remotely close to the issues you're talking about in the 1st two paragraphs so we will have to dig into that a bit, though #3 could be something as simple as your GPU struggling or your render resolution in SteamVR being set to an absurd amount (which tends to happen with Pimax headsets in Steam for reasons unknown).

As far as posting images in the forum, it's the same as many other forums, reddit, etc. Upload an image to imgur (or another image host) and paste the link in your comment. Can use the "Add an image" link below or the direct link off the image hosting site.

Sounds like a problem with you windows installation and your WLAN. No money in the world can fix problems the user created himself.

Don't think I created a problem by previously owning a video editor program.
The problem is the SLR app is designed to run videos and it isn't doing that.

Sounds like you don't have a solution to the problem, so why did you bother to reply to me?

Hi, thanks for the reply. I tried streaming videos on the SLR app to remove that variable from the puzzle and yes the videos run if they are streamed. Just not local videos.
You should have seen me putting in my credentials to sign in with an xbox controller, moving my head to point and the menus that stick to the head movement at times (laggy screen tearing) hahahha.

Local videos not working is bizarre to me as well. I used to have a different headset like two years ago and local videos weren't an issue. I think it has something to do with the Pinaccle studio overriding auto play in the registry keys somewhere that were never cleared, because of the SLR video file names or something. But I dont' want to rename them; it might break them for SLR.

I was just going to post the error messages; don't know if it matters. The messages say the same things I did.

I already responded to your support ticket, but I wanted to let you know that there is nothing wrong with your system when it comes to the videos trying to open with the DVD software. It only means your Windows currently has .mp4 files associated with that app.

There are issues with your answer:

If I associate .mp4's with SLR, then any normal 2D video (.mp4's) on my computer will try to open SLR too when I double click on them. This screws all my regular videos that aren't VR SLR videos.
If I'm opening a video within the SLR app, it doesn't need an association. I just told the app to open the video. The only time you need an association is when you double click on the file itself and Windows needs to know what program you want to open it with.
.mp4's are not associated with 'Pinnacle My DVD'. It's associated with Fastone Image Viewer, which plays videos through the Windows Media Player architecture. I have no idea SLR is trying to open 'My DVD'.

Johnny166 I didn't say you have to change it to open with SLR.

Also, I earlier didn't notice you said Win 95. It's a wonder it even runs SteamVR at all. Even Win7 doesn't support all the features.

You've been a pompous ass to people trying to help you. This issue has nothing to do with the SLR app but your system and lack of understanding how things work. We are not going to try and help you any further.

I did associate .mp4's with the SLR app. I still get the same result. (Yes from within the SLR app, *not clicking on the files).
If I go to windows explorer and double click on the video files to open them, it launches SLR but crashes because of my other unrelated Steam VR issue. I have to launch SLR from pitool and nowhere else. But that's just a side note.

It is YOU who doesn't understand what file associations are and since your reply didn't change my situation at all it is YOU who doesn't understand the problem. But I'm not the one who gets paid to understand these things.

If you have no idea how to fix this you could have just said so. Can I get some proper tech support from someone, thanks.

Again, nothing to do with the SLR app, most likely a windows registry entry or codec association.

Ok the K Lite codec pack seems to have fixed it.
That's because of its clean up tool that scanned and found all the leftover registry keys associated with these old installed codecs. It found like six of them. It even found the HEVC codec to have a missing registry key.

I don't have scene chapter shortcuts though, like I do with streaming, which kind of sucks.

Ok well it's my misunderstanding I think, my fault sorry.

I had to scrub every trace 'Pinnacle Studio 25' off my computer and do registry sweeps and clean up with Ccleaner.
It was a horrible program; that's why I got rid of it.
Now the videos are just black. Installed the HVEC codec but not the other one yet.

Screen tearing was from using USB 2.0 ports instead of 3.0.
My IPD was wrong because I measured it with both eyes open.
I'm getting there.

I've been fighting with this thing for so long my depth perception in reality is messed up right now.
I feel like Neo putting his finger in the mirror.
