sorry if someone pointed it out before...i just skimmed the thread a bit

they do have that non-FB sign-in option for the q2 which is like 700 or 800 bucks....gotta imagine that will go away once the cambria comes to market.

an extra 100 for NO FB sign-in.... would be a popular option.

spanker Interesting note is that while Facebook Account is no longer required, a Meta Account and Meta Horizon profile WILL BE required for Oculus users after Jan. 1, 2023 in order to use their Oculus device.

Oculus users may say "If I'm forced to make an account then I might as well get the Meta Quest 2." Meta could make salvage from this and THEN release a priced-up Cambria by end of year.

I don't know, but I'm holding out for another SteamVR enabled headset/VR-glasses. I don't mind paying, but my main focus is on lighter comfort. Being that Quest 2 is slightly heavier than Rift, that's more of a no-buy for me. No telling when Meta's lighter-weight prototypes will release, so I'll pay up to 1000 bucks on a light-weight competitor who releases before-hand.

doublevr it’s literally a phone pre installed in the headset. A phone I might add originally marketed as a stand alone device yet it has the battery life of a Nintendo DS. Has almost zero first party support for games, you can’t even attempt to link your computer to the quest if it doesn’t like your specs. You can’t use any external streaming apps even in browser. You can’t upgrade storage with a micro sd. If it wasn’t for porn there would be no reason to own it. All that without mentioning it gave thousands of people face rashes because the sweat rag cushioning. They still haven’t released the improved battery headbands after their recall either.

the headset by facebook/oculus was probably below cost...as a loss leader to get you in the system and buying their games

if you didn't want to be part of the their ecosystem...you had to give them a profitable price

that's fine...kept the Q1...waiting them out or competitor to get up to speed. hoping we see something in next few months.

Phone headsets are the way of the future for most, thanks to inflation (not just in America!), the Green movement, and taxes (again, not just in America, but enjoy the 85,000 new IRS agents)...

GearVR isn't that bad. The controller is preferable to Quest. After installing the software you can crack the phone to get rid of many of the excess apps. Second hand phones are reasonable, and most manufacturers downgraded their phones since 2020. Compare the DPI of, say, a Galaxy S20 to S22. And the S22 doesn't even have microSD storage.

Sure a fantastic headset would be nice, but so would a yacht and sports-car. In the words of Mao, “A revolution is not a dinner party." I would add, especially when you're running short on food!

Redhulk50 I did buy lot of Quest games but last 2 years its been only porn watching no games 🙂 I would definitely pay double the price if any handset claims it has double the video clarity that of Quest 2.

Video clarity is still limited by video resolution not headset resolution, a new headset would not do much without the right videos.

Get a Varjo Aero. If you have excess money and a good graphics card your can achieve near perfection in your VR experiences through their hardware. more competitors, the better. i wouldn't mind getting brand new headset a couple of times a year if it was that much better.

Listen to what Big Joe (Joe Rogan) has to say about TikTok's Terms of Service. Basically they are as bad as Facebook, if not worse. (TikTok and Pico 4 are made by ByteDance, which is linked to the dictatorial regime in China.)

spanker Yeah because they make their money selling games not data. I got a lifetime subscription so the headset is just the vehicle for my porn. Whatever headset has the best standalone experience so I can jerk off comfortably will get my money. If phone headsets didn’t make it a pain to navigate sites without giving me neck cramps I wouldn’t even own a quest.
