AMD RX 6950 XT fails in VR

a friend of mine got a AMD RX 6950 XT and WMR Reverb, but he was unable to get this working. I also have a Reverb, so I tried to help, but there was no fast solution, so I decided to do it the hard way, I made a backup of my system and then inserted his AMD RX 6950 XT in my computer, then I wiped my system and did a complete new windows install, then only installing Bios chipset drivers, then newest AMD Adrenalin 22.5.7 driver, then windows HEVC extensions, windows updates, then install of WMR and steamvr, but same problems, VR nearly unusable, then I used AMD Cleanup Utility to remove this newest driver and installed 22.5.1 driver, now I could use VR but only with stuttering, I tried all things, nothing helped. Now my friend got a used nvidia 3090 and all is smooth and great.
I cannot believe that AMD graphic cards are really so bad with VR, even their newest powerhorse RX 6950 XT,
is there a general AMD hardware problem or is it just a driver lottery?
are there any satisfied AMD users out there with a good VR experience?

wuccer when something is odd and you are indoubt, realise that computers of anykind are not stable.
swap around a little bit by that i mean new install reseat ram there are so many spaces there things can go wrong.
i also have a wierd issue when combining vr video playback on pc anything else is fine. what i find to be the problem is a old harddrive that when i unplug it vr video playback over the pc works just fine. i use mostly my quest to view anyway so i plugged the hdd back in. computers are at the edge of functioning and it didnt get better over all the years.

It's not as simple as "I has powerful card" When it comes to video decoding and connected displays.

Video resolution, format, bit-depth, any other displays, and their resolution + refresh rates. HDMI/DP/TB, etc all play a role.

I suggest first trying to disable any secondary displays you might have. Use Display Port wherever possible. Lower your display's refresh rate, and lower its resolution. - Using an integrated graphics card to drive your monitor also helps.

There's only 'so much' output bandwidth a card can handle. ie you won't be running four 8K monitors at the same time on that card even though it can do 8K. - You sorta have to add them up. Four 8k displays would demand 32k from your card. - This applies to your VR headset displays as well.

I do not agree with Rakly3 answer. For some reason AMD support is still quite unstable. The last working driver version for me is 22.3.2 which is absurd if you keep in mind that we are now at 22.11.2. I get driver timeouts when using the video bar to forward or preview the video. There seems to be nothing I can do to fix it so yeah.. I would be very interested to know why AMD VR or SLR AMD support is still such a big issue.

I don't see what in my post contradicts with your post. I was troubleshooting, not just saying, "Bad luck, it doesn't work!"

There is no SLR AMD issue. We use Microsoft's own media support. That's why specifically the Microsoft HEVC codec is required.
