Downloading stops before video is complete

When I try to download a video, I get only about 2/3 to 3/4 of the video.

The download finishes as normal, but the resulting video cuts out before the end.

I am not using a proxy or VPN or anything like that.

PalmPilot It can be tough to figure out exact causes/issues when it comes to downloads, but if you want to submit this form I may have an idea or two to start.

I've encountered this problem too. Either the video stalls out at 50%, in which case the answer is to shut the browser and re-start the download (it doesn't add to the 3-day total, if that's a concern); or, it stalls at like 80-90%, in which case just press the re-start button (not the refresh button) to re-activate the download (it picks up where it left off and everything is good).

EDIT: Removed secondary concern. It seems as if recent updates to Firefox could not recognize the full files of the SLR conversions. No problem with the original file, only with the conversions ... I have no idea what causes this but the solution is Free Download Manager (FDM). It is easy to learn and reliable and fast. However, it requires an Add-on for Firefox, so don't forget to install that.

Had the same problem. Someone suggested using a program called "Internet Download Manager" and that solved the problem.

Free Download Manager (FDM). It works like a charm.

It's an issue with the browser + parallel download + filesize.
There isn't much we can do about it other than stopping the streaming service, but we are a streaming service, not a download service. So....

It's like trying to download 10 Netflix movies at the same time.

The parallel connection is required for stream buffering.
A download manager is equipped to deal with this as it writes away the data instead of buffering it. And the streaming video player doesn't need to store the data so it dumps it when the buffer is full and no longer needs it..

Rakly3 Great and thorough answer! Sometimes I have buffering problems in DeoVR (I think). It says 'error incorrect file type' while streaming in 4K H265. Do you know why that might be? Can I increase the buffer in Deo? FDM is a godsend. That's worth promoting to save users a long road of discovery. I'm not a massive downloader, but I'm having to re-download the few videos that I do want in super-high quality that became corrupted through Firefox.

This problem happens even when downloading only one file and not streaming anything at the same time.

Aren't downloads handled via a totally different protocol than streaming (HTTP versus UDP)?

Given that a download is being sent via a stateful HTTP transmission, then if the server drops the connection the download should still be able to be reinstated and resumed. But for some reason the browser is getting the message that the download is complete when it's not. The file in the Download directory appears complete, but only contains part of the content.

@Rakly3 I'm pretty sure it's impossible to install codecs in Android, but maybe I'm wrong. I also think it's impossible to install codecs for Oculus / Meta products. Basically the problem occurs while streaming every so often, and especially while skipping forward and backwards. I was just wondering if Deo had a specific chunk size. Relatedly, the "Original" of this file won't even run, nor other original files from the same studio, https://www.sexlikereal.com/scenes/the-club-24022?tab=downloads . I'm also trying to figure it out ...

@spacepirate Which player do you suggest? I've had a better experience for non-SLR on SkyBox. SkyBox has MKV compatibility and is better for correcting slightly damaged / corrupted files on the fly. One of the great advantages of MKV they can integrate the subtitles for JAV films. And I see that there is a database of subtitles for VR JAV, some of which may even be here on SLR https://www.subtitlecat.com/

Great point @Hunky-Dory . I can imagine how that would be confusing. And since it has nothing to do with the SLR-side it would be hard to get help.

@Rakly3 I think I'm good now with the first question. For reasons I can't explain the problem has gone away. However, I'm still curious why the films of StasyQVR, in original format, appear to be stored in a different format from all other studios, or mpeg-4 instead of mp4 (different, right?); I can't get the originals to play without glitches and artifacts. So I switched from streaming to downloading and I still get the error. Worse still it looks as if the files themselves have become corrupted in some way: certain parts of films aren't watchable, and it's impossible to know which parts unless I watch the thing through to completion. I'm using Free Download Manager, as recommended, and have set FDM to download one film at a time. I have no idea why this is happening, but DeoVR gives the error "Unsupported file type"; the file size matches the size on the server. Most often this happens with the copies converted for particular devices by SLR. By downloading the original it's possible to avoid the error, but some of the original files are gigantic. Got any ideas how to fix the problem in any other way?

Original Studio files we can not guarantee to be compatible, since those are the ones sent to us, not encoded by us.

The problem is universal (all SLR-converted Index files, etc) and not solved by downloading one file at a time at least for me. The solution is either the complex method outlined in the other thread or to stream only, which is fine and I guess understandable.
