  • 190-degree fish-eye is NOT supported on Oculus GO

The new SLR Originals are filmed in 190-degree fish-eye. This format is NOT supported in DeoVR on Oculus GO. The image shows as a distant circle surrounded by black. DeoVR is not recognizing it as a VR video.

Oculus pulled support for the GO a couple of years ago. This means no software on the GO will ever be updated. So, I cannot update DeoVR, so the new format will never be recognized.

If you continue to release videos in this format, people on Oculus GO won't be able to watch them. Are you fine with that?

I have no intention to upgrade my headset because VR is frankly not good enough on any device to warrant further investment.

Combined with the other issue I raised in Support of some videos not appearing in DeoVR -- https://forum.sexlikereal.com/d/2804-some-videos-are-not-appearing-in-deovr -- I am running out of reasons to re-subscribe.

@BobbyBadass I also still use the Go because the Quest I bought was a lot less comfortable and the gain in resolution wasn’t enough of an improvement to make me give up my beloved Go. I have the same experience. The DEO version that plays in Go auto selects this new format as flat 2D when streaming. I was however able to download the file and play it through DLNA which is still supported within DEO on Go, for the same reason there was never the update. Playing the download allows you to select side by side 180deg settings with the Fisheye on, and then all is well.

argyle43 I can download the files and bring them onto my headset via Samba in a different player (DLNA is not compatible with my network for reasons I won't go into). However, the other players I have will display SLR's 220- and 190-degree fish-eye videos as 180-degree because they don't support those other formats. So, it will be noticeably distorted.

Besides, I want to be able to stream it first in order to decide if I want to download it. I don't download most things. 🙂

The short answer is that we're not able to permanently support every device that has been around, and especially when those devices are no longer supported and have been discontinued by their creators themselves.

I know you were hoping for a different answer and I'm sure it's frustrating to hear, but it's an unfortunate reality.

Avakian TBH any estimate on a specific % would just be a complete guess on my part, but whether it's .01% or 5% (two examples of numbers pulled out of my ass), we have to eventually call it quits and pull the plug on devices that are discontinued and unsupported.

Sadly it means there's always going to be someone that's disappointed since they're still using an older device for whatever totally valid personal reasons they may have, which is obviously unfortunate but pretty much unavoidable.

i originally bought a GO. the battery life was horrible

returned it within a few weeks for the QUEST 1. battery last 2.5 hrs pretty easy.

        maybe find one on ebay

is the other reason, not having to sign up for FB? that's why i didn't get the Q2...though just bought one for my kid

spanker Exactly right -- aside from considering social media to be a form of cancer, I also do not really want a device I use solely for pornography to be somehow connected to my friends and family.

Meta would absolutely hate this... but if you got a disposable prepay SIM, or used one of the many services which exist which provide disposable temporary phone numbers you COULD create a Meta account which is not linked to your actual identity in any way. I speak as a former Go user...

luckily i bought it and replaced it with the Q1 before all that FB crap. i kept the Q1 for the same reason and actually was plenty good.

I checked with my more technically inclined colleagues and have been told that both of these scenes should be working fine. Have you downloaded them? If you have can you check the filenames for me? They should end with _fisheye190.mp4. The SLR app and Deo will both detect this and should play them correctly automatically. If that is missing try changing the ending to that and let me know how you get on.

Polar they play fine when downloaded; the ability to choose and switch between viewing modes is there. The issue here is streaming, which currently locks you into a 2D viewing experience. </TLDR>

It’s especially frustrating because streaming offers a greater range of quality options to choose between, but in this case streaming is broken.

Downloads these days only allow choice between 4K or 8K, and the 4K file for these is pretty crummy indeed - extremely compressed. It used to be nice being able to grab a 5K file and playing it at a slower speed but those days are now gone too.

I suppose the answer is going to come down from the top: “too bad, upgrade your headset.” I actually already do have a Quest 2, but I stopped using it for VR Porn almost immediately after I bought it. I love my Go. It is comfortable, the viewing FOV has a larger sweet spot, and it still has plenty of life in it. I for one hate (and bitterly resent) having choices taken away from me.

Hopefully an improved Quest will come out soon, or better still Apple will release the mother of all wireless headsets and then I’ll choose to upgrade on my own terms. Until then I’ll keep using my Go and I’ll just have to wait to fully experience these new format of SLRO scenes. First world problem, hardly going to scream about it, but the sour taste remains as it did on the DLNA issue… But then I take my Go and go watch a perfectly crisp CVR scene on Pigasus via DLNA and the smile returns to my face. There’s still plenty out there from which to choose. </rant>

Doesn't work on Skybox or DEO. Looks like your business decision is telling me to go away - and I will unless you fix the problem on your end.

Today’s scene. Once again, will only stream in 2D mode. Downloaded the 4K file which will play in Deo app on Go, but it’s oddly distorted. Thankfully Pigasus seems to be rendering it just fine though. Scale is slightly oversized, but that’s likely in the scene itself and the crew still needs to optimize the IPD and/or other settings on the new rig. Good lord what a scene though. Girls are just ridiculously gorgeous. Difficult for my brain to process that much hotness all in front of me like that. Just top, top, top shelf casting.

argyle43 I still have a GO and tried swapping the _FISHEYE190 out with _MXK200 in the filename and letting Deo handle it. Maybe it was just a placebo but I thought it was better than manually setting it to 180 sbs fisheye. Not perfect but an improvement.
