JAV Throttled or Hosted Elsewhere?

I use DeoVR on a Quest 2 and have noticed that JAV content freezes much more often than everything else. I just tried to download a few videos for offline use and one wouldn't download at all and another that was a mere 2.4GB was estimated to take 40 minutes even with my 500Mb internet connection. Comparatively, downloading a 15GB SLR Original takes less than 10 minutes.

Is JAV content throttled or hosted somewhere different from everything else? Could something else be causing this? I have 500Mb internet, as mentioned, and can stream 8K videos locally over WiFi without so much as a hiccup, so I don't believe it's anything on my end.

Terracotta Can you go to your quest storage settings and remove the cached/temporary data then try again?

The files are all on the same servers and we don't impose any download speed limits.
Streaming will give you enough speed for the bitrate of the video + caching.

Is that the "Delete App Data" button? I've done that before and while it definitely didn't permanently help, I don't recall if it temporarily helped. Can you tell me what sorts of things are cached? Maybe it just gets worse over time from the Resume Playback setting keeping track of all the timestamps?

Edit: That did not help and I was mistaken about only JAV being affected; it seems to be everything but only intermittently. I've had this problem in the past and it eventually cleared up on its own but now it's worse than ever and it started around the same time as the most recent DeoVR update. I'm going to try reverting to the previous version to see where that gets me. That doesn't explain the slow website downloads but I won't worry about that if I can get the app working smoothly again.

Terracotta are you downloading straight to the headset? Mobile devices aren't really made to deal with large parallel downloads. It's pretty resource intensive.

Could you also do a speedtest with the Meta Browser on our site? Please give us the test ID number you get at the end, not just the results or a screenshot. We have more data on our end. But we need to know which test it is ofc.

JAV videos are often slow just to even open and stream - so I have assumed they are hosted externally

To avoid misunderstanding, are we talking about JAV on the .com site, or the .jp site?

The only technical reason I can think of off the top of my head is that less viewed scenes are not cached in the streaming server(s) the moment you request it and may take a bit longer to retrieve the data.

I found that DeoVR 12.1 works infinitely better than 12.2. Is there a way to disable automatic app updates? Or can you point me towards an SLR APK based on DeoVR 12.1?

I assumed you always point to the place where they are natively hosted by the original studio, and have assumed that some of the JAV studios simply have inferior servers (or more activity)

To clarify, I'm not concerned with website downloads. I only included that in my original post because it seemed like JAV scenes downloaded slower than originals. Whether they do or don't doesn't matter; I'm just trying to get Quest 2 streaming to work properly.

To that end, it's definitely the fault of DeoVR 12.2. Everything freezes all the time with it. Going back to 12.1 or 12.0 and it performs markedly better. The problem is that it keeps updating to 12.2 overnight every night. Are you aware of a way to disable that or is there somewhere I can find older versions of the SLR app than the one available on the site?

But I am. Whatever information you can provide us can help us troubleshoot the issue.
You should be able to disble automatic updates in the Quest settings. I don't know where the setting is off the top of my head. For me apps never update unless I choose to.

You want a www.sexlikereal.com speed test from the Meta Quest Browser after setting it to desktop mode, and a computer speed test after enabling parallel downloading and auto-tuning? Where on the website is the speed test button? I've only ever seen it within the app.

Here are the results formatted as latency/streaming/parallel, speed test ID, server. I've noticed that when things slow down a lot, if I do a speed test right away, it almost always gives me Miami-3 for the server; I don't know if that means anything or not. I also noticed on the final two tests that the streaming speed showed much higher numbers during the test and then dropped a huge amount for the final result.

I don't have a VPN. Are you thinking my ISP is throttling SLR? Have there been other reports of that? I have AT&T Fiber and live in TX. Here are tests to a Frontier server in Miami.

Terracotta We get throttled often, though all data is circumstantial. But it can also just be the DNS your ISP is routing you. For more troubleshooting you will have to contact us via our support though.

I switched my desktop DNS from AT&T to Google and now get the speeds I'd expect to get. I'll have to test the Quest 2 later but I expect it'll work. Thank you!

Edit: Yeah things are miles better after statically setting DNS on my Quest. Did 12.2 change how the app handles DNS requests? If not, I must have just had some really unlucky timing as I was switching between versions, given how consistently poorly 12.2 behaved. Regardless I think I'm all set now. Thank you again.

Edit2: Spoke too soon; things are really bad again and my desktop w/ Google's DNS is back to the crappy speedtest results. I tried my phone on 5G and that is getting crappy speeds too, so I don't see how it can possibly be anything other than SLR itself being intermittently slow. I guess I'll open a ticket with support.

Most of my testing has been with the speed test, either on the website or in the app. I can pretty much never get anything higher than 60Mb regardless of the device I use, whether it's my wired desktop or my wireless Q2 or phone or 5G on my phone. The one time I got the speeds I'd expect to see, 500Mb+, was after setting my desktop DNS to 8.8.8.8, but that was only for a single test and I've never gotten those results again. 1.1.1.1 does not perform any differently.

As far as testing actual playback consistency, 12.2 remains basically unusable 90% of the time, and I see in another thread that others are having the same problem with it. 12.1 and 12.0 are better and I don't think DNS plays a factor -- they're not perfect but are about what I'm used to with the occasional slowdown that probably correlates to your servers being slammed. Oculus removed the option to disable automatic app updates and thus it'll always update to the latest version overnight if left in sleep mode so I've just been shutting it off instead.

Edit: Nope, it happens in 12.0 too. I give up for now; it's so random and inconsistent that I can't be sure of any of the subjective things I've said in this thread. All that remains is the speed tests, and if I should be able to get more than 60Mb on it (or a more consistent 60Mb -- just about every test would drop to <10 or even 0 during said test), then the problem has to be on SLR's end considering I can't get better results than that on two separate networks.
