I’ve streamed thousands more scenes than I’ve downloaded purely because most of the scenes that I stream I don’t like enough to bother downloading. I still do download everything that I love.

If I wanted to, I could take from that graph that most of the scenes on here are so poor that no one wants to download them. That they stream them and decide they are not worth downloading. I’m not saying that is really what is happening but it’s easy to interpret that data in different ways.

We’ve also seen that scenes can be removed with zero notice if SLR suddenly decide it’s a risk to leave them on so downloading your favourite scenes is an essential option to have as the site may decide to take it away from you.

      If a user only streams, possibly he streams his favorites scenes dozens of times. A download only counts as one.

      If I am suscribed to SLR, it is because I can download. I will never pay for only-streaming porn.

      That graph was showing watched time of streams vs downloads, it's comparing two completely different metrics seemingly on the same scale. Almost as if to push people more towards streaming because downloads are dying, it's absurd.

I read your how to increase streaming thing and the only thing I had not tried was a VPN. So I now have a subscription to one but I don't think it did anything. If you want to fix the worlds streaming speeds that would be great but really why do you hate downloads?

          Don’t get me wrong, effortlessly streaming would be ideal of course, and maybe one day the technology will be there. Currently though, the highest grade you can get from streaming is B+, imo.

          A simple stat I’m curious about is % of subscribers who download, let’s say, 1 video a month, also 2+ videos a month.

          I do use downloads, but not DLNA. Most of my downloads are from non-SLR sites. I often use the SLR player for these rather than switch to another website or player.

            As I do understand your thought logic, it's not entirely correct. In fact, the downloads graph is overstated as it counts the whole download as viewtime / used bandwidth. Most downloading users download more than they realistically can watch. Whereas streaming data is pretty accurate. If you stream 10 minutes, then only 10 minutes is counted.

            If you download a hour long scene and only watch 10 minutes, the whole hour is counted.

            This is also confirmed by the account logs. I see user accounts all day every day; The vast majority of users don't even have a single download logged.

              Streaming takes all power and rights away from users and gives it to the companies. That's why. Customers pay without owning anything and if they stop paying, they have nothing. So they have to keep paying forever for the same thing they have already paid for before.

              It is logical that companies want all the power, but as users, we can't allow it. We already see what is happening with Netflix and Disney: now that they have all the power they put and take away series and movies as they please, and raise the subscription several times a year. Customers are just a credit card with legs with zero decision-making power.

              Downloads allows us to keep some of that power, and that's why all the companies hate it and want to eliminate them.

                      Well you own the right to watch your paid clip as much as you want.
                      With streaming you only have to possibility to watch something provider lets you watch.

                      And there already have been a vast number of cases for videos disappearing for whatever reason proving that streaming while maybe convenient is the way worse solution in the long term, on top of that that downloads are possible higher quality, have less chance to be interrupted by network issues and so on.

                          Philip I'll give you a hint too: You don't own the content of 3rd party studios - that's part of the problem, because you can't guarantee users that they will have streaming access to those video in 6, 12 or 24 months. The other part of the problem is that you depend on payment providers and have to follow their rules.

                          So you "own" even less, than a user who downloaded his favorite videos.

                                  All ownership semantics aside, once I download a scene to my laptop, to all intents and purposes I own it.

                                  Yes, I don’t own the rights to it so I can’t do anything with it beyond my own private use (not that I’d want to) but it’s on my laptop/hard drive and I can watch it whenever I want forevermore irrespective of whether that scene is still on SLR or whether I am even still subscribed to SLR.

                                  The streaming option means I have to continue to pay for a membership in order to keep my access to a lower quality version of that scene and, even then, there’s no guarantee that you won’t take the scene down with no notice whatsoever as you have done many times before.

                                  For all of those reasons, the option to download content is an attractive option.

                                  That being said, in mainstream entertainment, downloading is not really an option. If I want to watch a show on Netflix, I have to be subscribed (or have a password for someone else’s subscription!). I can’t download Stranger Things to keep, I have to stream it and everyone accepts it. There are undoubtedly some who’d love to be able to buy a Stranger Things 4k Blu-ray box set to keep but those days are pretty much gone, not completely gone but largely gone. None of these Marvel shows, Star Wars shows, Lord Of The Rings shows etc will ever be released on dvd because they want people to sign up to their streamer to watch it and then you hopefully just don’t bother unsubscribing when it finishes. Don’t be surprised if porn goes that same route.

                                    Whether they legally "own" it or not is irrelevant to most people. As others have pointed out, what people care of about is having control over it instead being at the mercy of a company who can take it away at any time for whatever reason. Personally, If I can't download it, I don't even want to see it at all.

                                    On top of that, the SLR streaming performance is so bad sometimes that it's completely unusable (especially on weekends). I have keep using a VPN to hop around to different CDN locations until I can find one that has decent performance. It's not my Internet connection which is 300 Mbits. I have literally 0 performance issues with any other site. Just SLR and it not uncommon complaint for what i've seen. It's so much easier and less stressful to just download and stream via DLNA or XBVR.

                                    I'm not sure I follow what you are trying to say here. If somebody downloads something and it goes away for whatever reason, how does that limit them to only watching old content?

                                        Philip Even Amazon knows better than to try to revoke access to a Kindle purchase. Amazon wouldn't be in business if they only streamed books.

                                              First, there is the technical issue: streaming looks worse, has cuts, and forces you to be connected to the Internet.

                                              On the other hand, it makes no sense to equate porn streaming with Netflix streaming. Maybe I don't mind everyone knowing what I watch on Netflix and at what times, but I don't want everyone to know what porn I watch, and at what times or in what quantity.

                                              Every time you connect to a porn stream the platform, your ISP, Google, Facebook and many more notes what porn you watch, at what times, how much, etc. I don't want that data about me being spied on out there.

                                              Porn is not Netflix.

                                              Streaming is for casual and lazy people who don't care about quality or privacy.

                                              I buy 4K Blu-ray movies from time to time and they look and sound MUCH better than the Netflix version, with much more definition and detail.

                                              It's a right that has been stolen from us as users, the ability to buy and keep series with the highest quality picture and sound.

                                              And they want to do the same with the issue of downloads here and at other platforms.

                                                Unless you describe one of their streaming services, this is not a problem with amazon at all.

                                                If amazon has a product today I can buy it and then I have it regardless if the manufacturer later decides not to sell its products on amazon anymore.

                                                Streaming providers try to give you the illusion you can have everything everywhere anytime you want, while this is not the case at all. On one hand is the technical side, streaming the data over a public network which is by definition a best effort network and therefore unreliable.
                                                And the other thing is the licensing problem, the streaming provider gives you the illusion you can put something on your favorites list and watch it whenever you want, but in reality you are completely on the mercy of the copyright allowing you to access the content tomorrow or next week.

                                                And this is inherently a big problem with SLR, as large amounts of the library the copyright owner is somewhere else, and while you may trust SLR not taking things randomly down, there is no way to trust all the other content providers out there.
