Tbh you're not wrong to be skeptical given how common knock-offs or poor quality items are these days, but there are also some stand-out companies based there who are doing some very cool things. Pimax is one of them imho, but again: that's just my personal opinion as a consumer.
There's not a huge amount of info released yet about the 12k, for example even the actual resolution hasn't been announced as far as I'm aware, whether it's actually "12k" or something else.
And with the Pimax headsets it's also important to keep in mind that the pixels are spread over a much larger area, for example with the 8k x each eye has a resolution of 3840x2160 pixels, and it's spreading those pixels over a 200 degree diagonal area in total. As opposed to the Quest 2's resolution per eye of 1832 x 1920 pixels, which are only spread over maybe a 100-110 degree diagonal area total between both eyes.
