I think, in order to grow it more quickly, the variety needs to increase. There is huge variety in 2d porn from super vanilla porn to super extreme porn and everything in between.
The super extreme stuff like puking and extreme rough sex is fairly niche even in 2d porn so I’m not expecting VR, with a much smaller sample size, to go down that route, certainly not whole sites dedicated to it as the demand is probably not there.
It’s the stuff in between that needs to be more regularly produced. I can’t believe that there isn’t a dedicated anal site in VR when there are countless anal sites in 2d porn or just more hardcore gonzo style porn. It’s very, very skewed towards skinny teen girls pretending to be your girlfriend.
In short, whilst I don’t expect to see a Legalporno type VR site (although I’d love to see it), I do think there needs to be a more Evilangel style site to pull more 2d porn fans over.
I note that Brazzers have tentatively dipped their toe in the VR pool but it’s a very poor quality scene. I hope they can invest in better equipment and commit fully to it as, whilst they are considered a more vanilla site in 2d porn, they’re still far more hardcore than most VR sites. They do have regular anal and even DP scenes. They certainly have the money to make good quality VR porn.
