I have trouble understanding your point of view.
According to the title, you seem to argue that the upscale brings absolutely nothing, but according to the end of your comment, you say the opposite.
Unless the title refers to the words of "u/thejinx2Na", but in that case I find your wording rather poor.
Otherwise, from my point of view, upscaling "can" bring improvement to a video.
I myself played this little game a month or two ago (following a discussion on the XBVR discord), a test done on a video from jacquie&michelimmersion (a vr studio that unfortunately no longer exists) on a 1440p video that I switched to 1920p, even if this causes some minor artifacts, the rendering is of better quality than the original version (sharper)

We can also see it with the video of wankvr and milfvr (maybe also NA if they use upscale on their remaster), the remaster is more pleasant than the original version.
Then, of course, there must be a better quality taken with a camera originally filming in high resolutions (provided that the cameraman knows how to set it up and use it properly).
But I don't think we should "demonize" upscaled videos that were not shot with the latest technology cameras.
