  • Plz do not kill DLNA , think about adding SMB!

Came in to see why my DLNA wasn't working. I guess I found out why.
As someone who doesn't really download from from SLR, but does from other sites, I don't really want to be using multiple apps. I'll try XBVR, and if that works through SLR, that's fine, but if not, isn't there concern that you would just be pushing people into downloading? The biggest reason that I sub is for convenience, having to juggle between multiple apps in VR not convenient, I would definitely be downloading all my content for use on 1 app, and if that was the case, why sub for more than a month here and there to get content?

Ballow As a reader, you use only one application, SLR app or DEOVR.
XBVR is not a player, it's just a management interface like for example plex which allows you to manage a "local streaming" independently of your internet connection.
So you can very well use SLR app/DEOVR for slr streaming, but also for XBVR for the other studios you follow by downloading.

I'm not pushing anyone to download, I'm just advising people who download and are used to using DLNA (which won't work in the near future) to turn to this solution.

And as long as the management interface connects to the player, then I don't personally have issue with it. I'll tinker with it later today and see how it works. But if I need a new player, then its a dealbraker.
But even if it does work, isn't this a step backwards? I understand that developing and supporting features can tax resources, but isn't this already built? And now a 3rd party application is needed to fully utilize the functionality that an app previously had? It's maybe not prohibitive for some, but I can see why this would irk a lot of people.

Ballow Then, you'll have to see that with the devs or the SLR team.

However, I don't really agree when you say "And now a 3rd party application is needed to fully utilize the functionality that an app previously had?"

Whether it's DLNA or XBVR, no matter what, you're always using a third party application to access your files, the only thing is that going from your DLNA server to XBVR, it's going to take some work, that's all, but once everything is set up, it's just maintenance afterwards.

Fair enough, but SLR was calling on that service previously with seamless integration.
Now, the user is required to install the application from a git repository. That assumes the user also has the ability to find what they are looking for. As far as a user experience goes, that's not great.

Samsonite121 As someone who is really bad at the tech side, XBVR doesn't look easy at all. Their webpage has no obvious explanation of how to install or how to run the program or anything. It looks very much intended for those who are super-fluent in this stuff.

dellicious It's true that there are "a few" small details missing in their installation method to help the less experienced, but their discord works very well and you'll find all the help you need there.
Once the step is not insurmountable either, you should not exaggerate, the use is very user friendly, especially since some versions for some things that required direct manipulation of the database.

Well, I tried Pigasus and Play'a as other players for the DLNA option - didn't see XBVR.
I also tried the http://192.168.x.x:9999 in DeoVR - didn't see XBVR.
            ...
But I found the issue now. My firewall was enabled! Now it works.
Ok, XBVR still needs some improvement (e.g. filter options) but yes, this looks very promising! Great! 😃

tanders That was my second idea, but I wanted to check that you were using the right protocol and ip address first.
              Well, welcome to XBVR.

I just started reading this thread today and you can add me to the list of people who would be very upset if any further functionality is lost with either SLR or DEOVR. But if any changes are really necessary, please, PLEASE, at least provide a full set of very complete and concise instructions as to the setup of any recommended alternative package that can be used to maintain the current capabilities of streaming or reading local files and provide those instructions with sufficient lead-time to enable users to get it all ready BEFORE you make any drastic changes. Like others, I find reasons for doing both streaming and local playbacks and would certainly hate to be left scrambling and struggling with trying to learn new technologies if the rug suddenly gets pulled out from any of those important functionalities.

I'm connecting to XBVR, but all im seeing is a white page, any ideas?

              Post removed by DoubleVR.
Something we don't want to promote on SLR.

Hey guys. DLNA is being removed for the better.

We can't have this back and forth all the time especially if things get out of hands by angry folks.

SLR won't support DLNA or XBVR promotions. The same like it will be inappropriate to post jailbreak guidelines on Oculus forum

We focus all our effort on unparalleled streaming

spacepirate this kind of communication from you guys kills any possibility of reasonable discussion. You just make me 🤮 with your bad ass replies.

I downloaded pigasus, and it works great for streaming from my computer or my phone to the oculus q2

Pigasus is like skybox very simple to log into my computer. 👍

You are really wondering that people get angry when you censor them and pretend that other things then your streaming bubble do not exist?

If anything is killing a reasonable discussion it is removing parts of the discussion from your side.

I’ll probably post this same comment in a few of the relevant threads, but:

I think it’s important to remember that @doublevr, the SLR team and especially the dev team who work on the app have been pushing the limits of what VR porn can be in one way or another for years.

As a lover of VR content myself and a member of most sites at one point or another over the years: I have never encountered a single site that comes even remotely close to the experience offered by SLR + the app.

Or for those who enjoy interactive content, again - no one in my experience is even close to what is offered by the SLR app, by any metric. Ease of use, content quality, amount of content, upload frequency, accepting requests, showing you how to create content yourself and offering you the chance to earn money doing it, etc.

Even something simple like the communication that so many on the SLR team have here in the forums/reddit/etc. Many sites don’t even bother to have actual discussions or interact with the community, but we’re constantly asking for input, scene and casting ideas, and literally asking for direct feedback on the app.

And I’m not even going to get into the 15k+ scenes from 100+ different studios, the support SLR has offered startup content creators, the SLR Originals series, etc.

I’m honestly not trying to just promo SLR here, but I am trying to point out that the SLR team has always been and continues to be at the leading edge of pushing everything related to the VR experience to its absolute mind-blowing limits, and I think it can be easy to miss or overlook that when passions run high.
