I took a look at this one this morning. As I’ve been very curious about Canon new VR lens and the R5C (I believe this one was shot on a R5 though).
I gotta admit. I’m not overly impressed at this point. Setting aside the 30fps max frame rate for the moment. Image quality isn’t that great.
FOV seems to be quite a step back from your current 200 degree fisheye videos. The mask they put on the scene appears to be pretty aggressive. Not sure if that can be lessened any.
Scale might be slightly small. I’m not familiar with the actress in this scene. But she seemed slightly small. For my IPD at least (63mm). I should mention I was viewing on Quest 2, DeoVR. Tried streaming and I also downloaded the 4GB original file.
The overall image also looks a little flat. Lacks the sense of depth that I’m used to with most modern rigs from yours and other studios. Especially out towards the periphery of the image. The nightstands looked pretty two dimensional.
Could better lighting help? Not sure.
The image was also a little grainy. So maybe better lighting can help with the noise and sense of depth. As well as fine detail. Which this scene also lacked. Not what I would expect from an 8K rig. You guys don’t want to pull a VRBangers 8K rig. 😉
Can any/all of these things be improved on. IDK. The fixed IPD of the lens/single sensor combo can be a potential problem. I’d have to see more scenes with actresses I’m more familiar with to say anything definitive about scale.
As for the other things. I’d also want to see more scenes. I think better lighting could help a lot. The masking needs to be looked at more closely though IMO.
I’m glad you guys are always looking to stay on the cutting edge of technology. I’m not too sure about this “upgrade” at the moment though.
Anyways, just some feedback from a longtime member. Thanks for reading.
