It's now more expensive to make the smaller chips bc there's no demand for it. Well, actually, no one is making them right now with the chip shortages and fabs running at 110%
There are only 3 commercial manufacturers in the world for these chips (TSMC, Samsung, SMIC) + Intel has their own. The FinFETs are getting smaller and smaller. There's no real reason to make the larger ones that have less capacity, use more power and have less demand.
They didn't do it to screw you over ;-) They do it because it's cheaper.
