  • using an AMD GPU (instead of NVidia) for VR porn is it recommended ?

So I have been using a 2080ti for the past years, trouble-free.

Recently I got a RX 6900 XT, and I notice in some 7k 8k videos it stutter a lot and laggy, even unwatchable? I'm not sure if this is just a software issues or is because of the card itself ?

so Does anyone here also use an AMD GPU that can give me some feedback? thanks a lot guys

hoangfbfthrow All Navi can decode 8k HEVC but AMD is not very open about the actual specs.

Make sure the decoding is actually being done by the graphics card. press ctrl + shift + esc and go to the performance tab. At the bottom of the list should be your graphics card(s). Play an 8k HEVC video and check if there is any decoding being done. The AMD drivers sometimes switch encoding and decoding graphs.

I don't know at which specs it will max out. The RX5000 series can't even do L6 according to this.

Here you can find more info in the levels: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/High_Efficiency_Video_Coding_tiers_and_levels

Don't quote me on this, but I suppose the RX6000 has the same codec as the RX5000.

Media Player Classic can also show you if it's using hardware and even the actual rendered frames vs dropped frames. Note that for video playback the FPS won't exceed your monitor refresh rate. Your display doesn't have to be 8K to test this.

Bro sorry for the late reply, Thank you so much for the reply I really appreciate it !

So as I check, my GPU doesn't do any decoding while playing the videos, mostly it's the CPU, (when I play the 8k60fps video, my CPU usage reach 90--100%).

So I may have some wrong setting here, do you have any idea how to make my GPU decode video instead of CPU ? Thanks man

hoangfbfthrow Did you install the HEVC codec from Microsoft? It used to be free but they charge $1/€1 now. Make sure the videos are h265 too!
