  • 3.0.0: Crash on Hovering over Video

Just updated to 3.0.0, and whenever I hover over a video (so basically always you move the touch controllers) the application crashes. Headset is Oculus CV1, other system specs: i7 8700K, GeForce 1080Ti, Windows 10.

    Ok, so with the nev version hovering and navigating on the main (video selection) screen works fine, however when starting a video playback the interface hangs for around 30 seconds. I just went back to the old (e.g. original 3.0.0) version, and discovered that the crash mentioned above is also actually not a real crash but just a hang for around these 30 seconds (I just never waited long enough to see the interface come back). There is no processor or network usage visible in Task Manager during these 30 seconds. After playing around a little more, this hang also appears on switching video resolutions and switching on/off h265. It does not happen when playing back locally saved videos. Also I could not create it by jumping ahead into unbuffered parts of the video.

      Dear Customer,

      Thank you very much for reply. The situation is quite odd.
      It seems that it freezes after we call AVPro plug-in to open streaming video.
      AVPro itself uses Windows Media Fondation module for streaming.
      In new build we used newer version of AVPro, that in SLR 2.0.

      Could you please check if you don't have the same problem in old SLR 2.0 build right now.

      It's really odd but since the last week we are also expecting freezing problem on one of our HTC Vive helmets.
      But this problem started to affect all SLR builds aswell as some games. And it presists in combination with only one of our computers.
      And works just fine on another PC with same HTC Vive. We have reinstalled Windows on that PC but without a result.
      We're still investigating that issue.

      On Monday we'll prepare another beta build for you with only one instance of AVPro for main player (without thumbnails etc).
      Hopefully we'll get any result.

      mr2003 P.S. Forgot to tell. For some the reason situtation gets better on that PC after clicking "Recenter" button on the controller couple times. Not sure that this is not coincidence and it could work for Oculus...

      For me the 2.0 version linked above works without issues. I tried recentering a couple of times before playback, but this didn't really change anything ...

        We have prepared builds for testing. Player is removed to prevent possibility of conflicts.
        We left only one video player instance on thumbnails to see if it will hang on hover.

        as far as I can tell both versions behave completely equivalent. In both cases there are no hangs or crashes while navigating the thumbnail overview. However (in both versions) thumbnails will not play immediately on hover: After starting the program, when you hover over a thumbnail for the first time it takes a considerable amount of time (~20-30 seconds) for the thumbnail to start playing. If you have done this once all thumbnails (also the ones you didn't hover over before) will play immediately. For itself this wouldn't be much of an issue, though I thought it might help you track down the problem.

          mr2003 Regarding behaviour. You right. There is a time gap between you hover on and video starts.
          Strange thing is that it should be a few seconds... Not 20-30. Maybe there were some problems with servers or connection. Well, at least that's not freezing so we are on the right way. 😃

          I tested all 4 new builds provided in the latest comment and in all versions the issue is fixed.
